Not even hinting at that is the hardest part of trying to get someone to stick with Season 1. It’s probably the best rug-pull in TV history, and so easy to spoil!
We’re 2 episodes in and not sure if we will continue. The parallels to an alternate universe where Harris won and Biden became a revered elder statesman are a little unsettling. The producers rolled the dice on this one and got snake eyes.
Just for the hell of it I watched S1E1 of Better Call Saul which I saw years ago when it was new. So much more fun this time around, and I had forgotten the end scene of E1.
I might have been one of the few who guessed something wasn’t right from the start. The giveaway was frozen yoghurt, Why “in gods name” would you have that in heaven if you had ice cream???
I stuck with it as I used to work as a host in a Soho jazz club, so it had a certain appeal to me.
The Italian mafia have been replaced these days by Albanians and other east Europeans, but the rest is much the same.
It was a narrative mess to begin with, but it did congeal into something as the episodes went on. Not as clever as it thought it was though.
Is it the first non Who related production for Bad Wolf?
I don’t remember if I said but we lost track of it and when we rewatched s1, Harry was much worse the second time around. I hated his character and didn’t want to see him “win.” I couldn’t get through the rewatch so dropped it.
I feel like I made a good decision.
I will have to try The Good Place.
I binged season one of School Spirits and was disappointed I only had three episodes of s2. I binged those. A month later, I watched a few more, lost a bit of momentum getting back into it but I did. I’m hoping for a good payoff with what they have setup.
They did the “first episode is free” on Prime and I watched that. I found it okay but guessed the big reveal. I wouldn’t pay for Apple+ to watch it but might watch more if it was in a sub I already had.
I really enjoyed s1 but s2 got bad reviews, especially here, so didn’t watch it. Is s2 worth it? I look forward to hearing if s3 is.
So far it’s just typical fare for the genre. An annoying foil in the person of a government agent who they apparently thought should have a Brooklyn accent. The plot is pretty predictable, but if you like seeing Alan Ritchson flexing at every opportunity, perhaps it’s worth it.
As I think back on the episode, and the premise, if my personality/existence was split between one side constantly working and one side constantly at play, the work side would go insane. I work to live. I say this because I didn’t see anything about the procedure that would make it a viable option for me, which made it tough to understand the choice. Equally, he did this because his wife died and now has to constantly live with that.
Thanks for the response. I’m disappointed because I did like s1, even in a rewatch. Thankfully, more things to watch out there!
Because, at least down here on earth, it’s much, much healthier. I do enjoy Haagen Dazs vanilla ice cream, but have you ever looked at the ingredients list? That stuff is just loaded with fat!
Anyway, I’m coming to the end of Season 2 of The Good Place. I personally found it a bit more disjointed and less funny than Season 1, but on IMDb there seem to be more stellar ratings of individual episodes in S2 than in S1. I gotta say though that I loved the opening of one of the episodes (I think it was #6) when Chidi the moral philosopher is trying to illustrate the classic “trolley problem” using a model train car and some tracks, and Jason, not known for his intelligence, immediately wants to play with the train set!
I am, in any case, moving on to Season 3. But S2 provides a clue as to why they called it quits after S4; according to one assessment, the plot was starting to become unwieldy and confusing.
