Perhaps they’re supposed to be, but whale teeth don’t look like that.
What exactly is the difference between the necklaces in the show and the actual artefact necklaces in the Bishop Museum? Or other Polynesian ones:
Publicity photo from the Apple TV+ show Chief of War, showing the lead actor Jason Mamoa, wearing what someone thinks looks like a bear claw necklace.
It also looks like … a whale tooth necklace.
Seriously, do people think the costume designers who spent “months of R&D” just to find a machine-washable substitute for real kapa were going to go “bear, whale, fuckit, they’re both mammals ”
I checked out after the first scene showing Mamoa playing rodeo with a shark. Absolutely ridiculous.
I concede the point.
When I try to follow that link to Instagram, I’m prompted to login using a Facebook account, but don’t have one. Here instead is an article from the Costume Designers Guild covering what may be similar content.
Puka shells don’t scream tough I guess, but then there is the eyeliner…..
I think I posted the same URL twice, that’s exactly the page I wanted to link to in that second link (it’s where the “months of R&D” quote is from)
Thanks.
Only Ina should play rodeo with a shark.
Wednesday - season 1
Recommended.
What a fun and cute show. My wife and I didn’t watch until now and Season 2 is partially online already. Fun, well acted, and pretty interesting. Not only is Jenna Ortega pretty good, the girl who plays her upbeat friend is an excellent actress.
We are surprised we like it so much.
Inna and I caught this one too. Yes, the actors were charming, the scenery properly British (Welsh, even!), and etc. However, even at three episodes, it felt like it took its time, the entire ‘investigation’ plot was horribly contrived (imagine doing that in America at any period), and the resolution seemed rushed and not really germaine to most of what happened before.
In short: it was cute.
ETA: Do spoiler tags no longer work?
Emma Myers. If you haven’t seen it you can try A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder where she play the precocious (but quite realistically flawed) teenage lead. She’s easily the best thing about the series, which otherwise is a solidly good but not awesome show IMO. I think I gave it a “B” grade, but it is very bingeable as a murder mystery.
I thought it was silly and moderately entertaining, but I confess I’m not the target audience for “teenage girl fascinates two hunky guys, which one will she choose?” stories.
I watched the finale of Smoke on Apple TV+ today. It was pretty decent. I do think that they went a little easy on Calderone; there needed to be some more addressing of
her killing her boss, even if it was an accident.
The series has a final twist where it is revealed that
the Dave Gudsen we have been seeing throughout is not his actual physical appearance, but rather his idealized version of himself. While being interrogated by Calderone, Dave looks in the mirror and sees his true self: a pudgy, balding middle aged sad sack.
This makes me want to ask some questions, like
how screwed up Reba (the ex-wife) must be to keep hooking up with that loser? I couldn’t begin to explain how those two would have ended up married, let alone why she would still want to come into any physical contact with him (after he literally set her on fire). I know looks aren’t everything, but Dave also came across as kind of psycho pretty much from the jump.
I enjoyed Wednesday s1 (not got to s2 yet) but I did guess
who the real villain was, purely because of the casting
Neither am I, but it was fun.
Forgot to watch the finale; maybe later this evening. Thanks for spoilering.
All in all, a good series with a lot of twists and well-acted by most everyone.
What was your problem with it? (Starting at 2:28) Lots of other references of lassoing sharks among Pacific Islanders, as well.
