Series you've recently watched, are now watching or have given up on

All Her Fault (Peacock)….we’re 2 episodes in, out of an 8 ep series, and so far so good.

With Sarah Snook and Dakota Fanning, about the kidnapping of a 5 year old. I thought it was going to be a whodunnit but we already are very clear as to who…so it remains to be seen what they’re going to do in the next 6 episodes.

For some reason it seems that these kinds of stories always involve extremely well-off families.

And the dad’s are all useless wastes of skin.

One big plot hole, though:

The victim’s school has a policy that kids must be picked up by a parent or a nanny which makes perfect sense. But it seems that any ol’ nanny will do – it doesn’t to be the one from the kid’s family.

James May’s Great Explorers – Fans of Captain Slow will probably enjoy this. James deconstructs the stories of Columbus, Raleigh and Cook in a way that reminded me of James Burke’s Connections.

For those, like me, are curious the episodes are available on YouTube, as linked to in blondebear’s post.

I’ve just finished watching Perry Mason on Netflix. Nicely done, even though it only connects to the books with the character names. This is a common thing these days: you create a brand new idea for a show and piggyback it onto an existing one. Still, I do like what they did with the characters.

An observation: The street were always too empty, probably because there is a limited number of old cars available for filming.

They also got the timeline wrong: Perry’s son goes with him to see King Kong (1933) and them mention the Japanese invading Manchuria (1931). Kong was a strange choice, since both Dracula and Frankenstein were released in 1931.

Overall, though, an interesting take on the character. I especially liked how the managed to make him a lawyer when he hadn’t gone to law school (that, at least, was historically possible).

I posted about this. Way way too much “and this time- it’s personal”. And her father cant own or carry a gun (which she should know, and stop him) , nor get a legit pot license. The Dad is a good character, i admit. Her daughter should have been arrested, and there isnt any tech advisors who know the laws- like you dont need a murder weapon to arrest or convict, the Sherriff didnt need probable cause to search the kid for drugs 9he was on probation) and what i said about the dad.

NCIS: Origins

Watching now, it has improved in season 2. The actors are setting into their roles.

Tonight featured a brief cameo with Mark Harmon. It’s nice seeing him again.

There is a cross over case from Origins to NCIS tonight.

I hope Mark is not lured back into appearing on NCIS. I really like how his character retired. I don’t need to see a 74 year old actor trying to recreate Gibbs.

I’m not sure what Mark can do on Origins except cameos reflecting on memories from his long career.

I am glad Mark has helped get Origins on the air. Gibbs is a fascinating character with a rich back story.

I am glad that I didn’t give up on Origins during the 1st season. I hope it continues getting better.

This weeks cross over with NCIS was very well done.

I don’t watch NCIS regularly anymore. There have been so many cast changes. The current show doesn’t have the comradery of the classic cast with Gibbs, McGee, Ducky, Tony, and Ziva.

Maybe I need to reconsider.

I tried to rewatch season 1 of NCIS, but Tony’s constant sexual harassment of Caitlin was unwatchable. Ziva wasnt there until S3. i dont remember if Tony tried that crap on Ziva also.

I was miffed that Harmon didnt came back for the special Ducky remembrance episode.

I tried origins, but the boss was such an asshole, too much smoking and no, you dont get to became a special agent if you cant pass your psyche eval.

NCIS the OG has gotten worse and worse, Way too much “and this time it was personal” and disobeying direct orders just because “we are family”. .

The more recent series with Peter Serafinowicz was excellent but much darker. AND SHOULD HAVE HAD A THIRD SEASON, DAMMIT.

(The earlier cartoon series was good too, and had a very catchy theme tune.)

I watched the first episode. It was quite entertaining, but I was slightly distracted by the occasional anachronistic phrase. (I think I’m oversensitive to that type of thing.)

I loved the cartoon as well but I had a tough time with that 2016 series. I thought that it took itself too seriously for a show based on the Tick and the world building itself was trying to be too serious and realistic, but with a wacky character in it. It was an interesting spin setting up whether Arthur was imagining the Tick or if he was for real, but I thought that the creators missed the mark otherwise. YMMV

Yeah, the ghost-writer that Parker’s widow hired to keep the income flowing just don’t get the characters or Parker’s writing style.

And in my opinion, she missed an opportunity. In the last Spenser book which Parker published, Sixkill, he introduced a character who would have been perfect for a spin-off series. The character was only partly fleshed out and a writer taking him on would have had ample room to do so without violating the Spenser canon.

Who was the character?

Isn’t that kind of the entire series in a nutshell? (Re: IT: Welcome to Derry)

I watched the first two episodes and decided to step away because it’s just not that interesting. I might come back to it as suitable background viewing once the whole season is out, but for now it’s just not worth following week to week.

Instead, I shifted to the new Netflix limited series Death by Lightning, which I quite enjoy. Something just fascinates me about charismatic but batshit crazy historical figures.

Hijack, but thank you for saying the name of the show. Many of these threads have reply posts for which I may need to follow back four or five posts to understand which show or movie or whatever is being talked about.

Finished The Lowdown. I really enjoyed it. Fun story and good execution. Ethan Hawke really nailed his character and made it look effortless. Graham Greene was just brilliant - a lovely swan song for him. Tanis, I mean Kaniehtiio Horn, needs a juicer part to sink her teeth into.

Watched the first two eps of The Beast in Me on NFLX, with Clare Danes and Matthew Rhys. Added attraction: Jonathan Banks! Grabs you right off and keeps you guessing.

Saw this today on my Google News page. In an article about the upcoming revival episodes of Malcolm in the Middle, the large header image for the article is a closeup image of a girl that featured in one out of several story thread of a single episode and never showed up again. So apparently the person who picked the image wasn’t someone familiar with the show, but that still doesn’t explain how they stumbled into an image of an extremely minor character and chose it to represent the entire series.

Bummed that Erik Per Sullivan won’t be back. Oh well.

ETA: I would never have recognized Justin Berfield.

Death by Lightning
Anybody with a Chester A. Arthur biography ready for press needs to get that sucker out there now! What a great character! I want to know just how much of that portrayal is Arthur and how much is Nick Offerman.
