I tried watching it in another language, but they seem to have engaged clones of Mr. Freeman or used some AI to transfer his voice into Spanish, South American Spanish (that was the worst) and German, only that the endless pauses in the wrong moments are even more unnatural in those languages.
I am giving the dinos up. The new information is too superficial for that acoustic hassle, I’d rather read a book about them.
I gave up. Between the flashbacks and fantasies and “meanwhile in a completely unrelated setting…” I lost track of what was happening. I loved Derry Girls and I enjoyed the dialog, but I’m done.
Glad I’m not alone! I started epi 5 last night, but fell asleep about halfway through and remember little of it, so I’ll restart that episode again. It’s entertaining, but, uh, more than a little quirky.
I kinda liked that, actually. The idea that not everything gets neatly resolved was kind of refreshing in some ways.
But yeah, I never liked Beth. She always seemed like someone I’d go WAY out of my way to avoid actually having to deal with, because she’s crazy as hell, and doesn’t behave in a reasonably predictable manner, and somehow the show didn’t actually reflect what having a reputation for being capricious, violent, and an angry lunatic would do for her.
The “origin story” as to why Beth had her hate-on for her brother was so eye-rollingly stupid that my optometrist forbade me from ever watching the show again lest I blind myself.
My husband and I have started watching The Good Place. I’ve heard it’s a really great show and we’re the last people on earth to see it, but five episodes in, I’m bored. Keep trying, or cut my losses?
Keep going. At the very least, finish the first season before making a decision. If you really can’t push it that far, watch the final episode of the first season before you throw in the towel.
We started watching it on Netflix a little while ago and have just started the final series. It definitely has a certain charm and keeps me chuckling. The characters are likeable, although Jason is a bit eye-rolly. Can anyone really be that stupid?
IIRC this was mentioned way upthread, but here’s a trailer for the new Malcolm In The Middle. It looks like they got a surprising number of the original cast back (but it’s a different Dewey).
And when we tell you it gets better, we don’t mean that it’s bad right now and you have to push through it (ie The Office or Parks And Rec), it’s more like what @needscoffee said, they’re still setting the stage. Someday, assuming you like the show enough to rewatch it, you’ll see so many things you missed the first time around in these early episodes. Mike Schur (the show creator) really knew what he was doing here.
Be sure to let us know when (if) you finish the first season. There’s an absolutely amazing behind the scenes clip to compliment it.
New Ghosts- okay this bringing in a new ghost every week is getting thin. Oh, and Flower with Thor and the leather chair? Thor is covered with leather and fur.
But I got a good laugh in Best Medicine when Dr Best mentioned those two women had been poisoned, his Aunt Sarah had a little smile. Funnier than all the jokes.
We gave the new HBO sitcom Rooster a look last night. Stars Steve Carell as an author and John C. McGinley as a college president who is trying to coax him into becoming a professor emeritus. Wasn’t impressed with it. It seems that sitcoms (like “Shrinking”) are now relying on rapid-fire dialog that never rings true as it never happens in real life. As comedy, this wears thin fairly quickly. McGinley, who I like as an actor, seems to be channeling RFK, Jr. in his quirkiness. We may give it another ep or two, but so far I’m not impressed.
I should’ve known better: I starting watching NCIS: Origins again after swearing it off; the most recent episode was so loaded with anachronisms it really put me off.
