Series you've recently watched, are now watching or have given up on

Trying to watch Hijack S2 on Apple+, but I’m as bored as Idris Elba looks to be.

I recommend Gavin & Stacey; it was a fun show.

I expected Honey, I Shrunk the Kids with Rick Moranis. What I saw was primarily a drama with very angry characters. None of the characters are likeable or anyone that I can care about. Even the secondary characters were bossy, angry and seem miserable in their jobs.

I’ve seen most of the tiny person gags in other shows. The family’s cat will terrorize a six inch person. Common objects like pens and pencils are great for sight gags. How can a six inch person eat anything? A piece of fried chicken will look huge. The husband will have to cut tiny pieces for the tiny wife. Maybe hold a magnifying glass while he does it. (Another sight gag)

Peacock is a cable channel and allows more adult content. Imagine the husband’s fart creating gale force winds for a six inch character.

I’ll watch two or three more episodes. See how the series settles into its premise.

The lack of sympathetic or funny characters is concerning. A comedy won’t work without them.

I was having trouble imagining a six inch person.

Google reports a standard Barbie Doll is 11.5 in.

Yeah, a six inch person is tiny. She can’t even wear Barbie doll clothes.

We watched ep.2. It does get a bit ‘zanier’ and a little more fun now that we’ve seen a full episode of the wife being small. But as you say, the characters are all still pretty unlikeable. You also called it pretty well on the ‘tiny person’ gags: the family cat, for one. As for large common objects, we have a giant Hershey bar. Fun fact: I happened to catch an interview with Elizabeth Banks on the Today Show and she said that the Hershey company made the prop out of real chocolate. As for making food tiny for her, (minor spoiler) since the husband invented the ensmallment process, he thoughtfully smallifies an entire dollhouse with tiny things, from food to clothes to appliances like a fridge and a little working coffeemaker, to make her feel right at home.

Logistically, the thing that bothers me the most, which is probably dumb since it’s just a silly show and not hard sci-fi, is this: the inventor husband said in a presentation that his ensmallment process works by reducing the space within the object’s atoms. In that case, if my rudimentary understanding of Physics is correct, mass would be preserved. Which means that a 120 lb. woman would still be 120 lbs. at 6” tall. I’m pretty sure that would make her much more dense than the densest substance on Earth. I doubt she would be able to move or breathe.

Thanks for the recommendation. Nicely paced and way tense. Christine has more guts than I do. I don’t know how she was able to do it for so long. I was really happy to see the person who entered at the end of the 3rd episode was Nomz. Such a good result.

I don’t know if I am quite ready to go back to the first series.

Did you happen to notice how insanely dilated her pupils were in that final interview (where she presumably had bright studio lights in her face). That seemed odd to me.

In any case, I’m thrilled about the ending. I can’t say whether or not she belonged in jail, but the time away from the compound (and Sam) clearly did her a lot of good. I was happy to see her on such good terms with Christine.

I felt awful for Christine when she mentioned that one of the wives named their kid after her. I don’t remember which one it was, but I hope she’s as happy with that name now as she was then. That sounded snarky, it’s not meant to be. I mean, I hope that wife is one of the wives that got out and is happy that Christine made that happen. I’m sure she, like many of the others, didn’t want anything to do with Christine after the group home dropped the ball.

I notice that a lot with actors in scenes. I know nothing about studio lighting, so there’s likely a reason for it. My first thought was drugs, of course, but there are way too many example of this.

Same here, but given (trying not to spoil anything) when this took place, I assumed she wouldn’t be under the influence of anything.
My other thought, because I noticed some other oddities with her earlier on, that she may have had a deep faked face, but I don’t think that was the case. It’s also they only scene I noticed it in. I’m happy to write it off as something as simple as a eye appointment earlier in the day.

On another note, I just watched another documentary from the Untold series. This one is called Chess Mates about the rivalry between Hans Niemann and Magnus Carlsen.
If those names don’t ring a bell, maybe this clip from It’s Always Sunny will. It’s (very, very loosely) based on part of Hans’ chess career.

If every single part of this documentary was exactly the same, but when talking to the interviewer he turned his enormous ego down by a few notches, I’d feel bad for him. But as it stands, he’s just an asshole, period.

Here’s the AI answer: . “While bright lights generally constrict pupils, cinematic lighting often keeps the surrounding environment dark, allowing pupils to remain larger, while adrenaline from acting emotional scenes can also trigger natural dilation.”

Maybe? It’s as good an answer as any.

I seem to be on a TV watching roll today. I finished Sirens, then watched Untold: Chess Mates and after that I went to go find the next episode of Scrubs or High Potential but was surprised to see the new Malcolm In The Middle waiting for me. I really liked it. They brought back so many old characters. I mentioned upthread I was glad Piama was back, I always liked her. The Krelboynes were there, Francis’ military school friends, Stevie, Stevie’s parents, the poker group, and one of my favorites, Gretchen.

I’m surprised it’s only 4 episodes. I wonder if they have any intention of doing anymore. These 4 episodes felt like a pilot and, IMO, seemed like they were setting the stage for the rest of the season.
Oh, and the glitter thing…I did not see that coming, at least not like that.

I plan on watching it later this evening. I’m really looking forward to it!

Yes, I did. I was wondering why, too.

The new eps are pretty good. As bad as they all seem, I reminded my wife that in reality, Malcolm in the Middle was a surprisingly dark show at times.

I loved them just sort of sprinkling grandma’s urn/ashes around while not paying attention. She deserved no better.

Just binged the Malcolm in the Middle continuation. It was kind of slow in a spit ir three that didn’t fit the tone of the original show, but I thought it was mostly great.

Say again?

“in a spot or three”, I’m guessing.

Ah yes, thanks, that makes sense. Usually I can parse typos pretty well, but not this time :upside_down_face:

Yes. Typing on my phone.

It had its moments, and Jane Kaczmarek and Bryan Cranston definitely came to play, but I thought it was overstufffed with too many characters. OTOH I counted at least five different storylines, possibly more, that could be spun off into their own shows.
