I tried to give the new version of “Cape Fear” another chance, thinking perhaps I was just having an off day. Nope. Total piece of crap.
watched this over the weekend The Island.
i liked the scottish gaelic, the story was one that has been done before.
I’m watching Patience on Youtube. Unfortunately only the 2nd season is available. I’d like to have seen the 1st season to be up on the whole story. The protagonist is a young autistic woman who works as a records clerk for the Yorkshire police, where she is associated with a squad of detectives who investigate murders. Her autism turns out to be a kind of superpower in that she notices things and makes connections that the others cannot and thus winds up being the key to solving the cases. I find the acting to be very good, especially on the part of the protagonist. The only thing I don’t like is the Medical Examiner associated with the team who is portrayed as basically incompetent, constantly being over-ridden by the lead. Why don’t they fire her and get someone competent?
Sounds pretty similar to Extraordinary Attorney Woo, though with different setting and no doubt a somewhat different tone. Recommended by the way, assuming you’re tolerant of subtitles.
Though much as I do like the aforementioned, I kinda find these memes of autism imparting analytical superpowers or mental illness imparting a deeper wisdom (a la Benny and Joon) a bit tiring. On the one hand they’re a useful corrective to societies that ostracize the other. On the other hand they’re an exaggeration to the point of caricature at times. Ah, well - can’t have perfect everything. And Attorney Woo is fun

The ABC medical drama The Good Doctor also had the main character, a guy with autism, be a genius at diagnosis.
Looks like The Good Doctor has been criticized for its’ heavy-handed portrayal of autism.
Yes, Attorney Woo works because the actress is a lot of fun to watch. But it does not bear much serious scrutiny (of course, neither did Ally McBeal and that was fun too).
Spider Noir on Prime. A new series starring Nick Cage. I know a lot of people don’t like him, but I’ve usually liked his films. This take on a Spiderman sorta guy takes place in the 1920s and you can watch the series either in B&W (which I’ve chosen) or in color. Cage plays a Spiderman who has given up the web after his wife died and is now a depressed and near-penniless private eye in NYC. He still has his powers, but has quit the crime-fighting game. One ep in and I like it.
We really liked Spider Noir.
The last season of The Bear is out today, all 8 episodes are being released at the same time on Hulu.
We were not frantically waiting for it, but will end up watching it .
I didn’t finish the last season. It’s become a slog. I’ll probably work myself through it.
Us too. Even when he’s chewing great holes in the scenery, Cage is delight to watch work.
Only the final episode (of season 4) for me. I kept wanting to get up and scream “Shut up and say something!’” at my television.
The bear is a masterclass on taking something good and making it genuinely say and do nothing. It bears (heh) no resemblance to the interesting show of Season 1, and I assume it really had nothing to say about anything much apart from a bit about bullying and overwork. And pictures of food.
Not sure if I can be bothered watching the final season. Maybe in the background as I play a game, like Rick and Morty nowadays.
That would mean resubscribing to Hulu, which I’m not crazy about. I unsubscribed because they really had no programming that I wanted to watch. Maybe I’ll do it for a month and then cancel again.
Nowadays you can subscribe to Disney+, ESPN+ and Hulu as a bundle and they are integrating them more and more, so if content on the other ones interests you it might be worth doing that. Hulu is where I watched Shogun, so presumably if they do a follow up series they will have it there too.

I can recommend Handmaid’s Tale and Testaments. Both the same show, really. Testaments is a continuation of Handmaid’s Tale.
They are Hulu exclusive.
Handmaid’s Tale was the last series I watched on Hulu. It’s been awhile. I kept waiting for decent new programming to come along, but then felt like I was literally giving them “money for nothin’”.
It’s great. It had a solid ending…but left doors open. Testaments acts like a direct next season of Handmaid’s Tale. The only real difference is that it does not focus on June, but someone else in Gideon.
Finished watching Schitt’s Creek. I really enjoyed the last two or three seasons - they made a nice pivot from the clueless “fish out of water” rich family in a small town to everyone getting their shit together (no pun intended) and back on their feet.
Also nice callback at the end to the “Don’t worry she’s his sister” town sign from S1.
