OK. It’s maddening to see a child indoctrinated. But certainly not unique to Muslims.
but where do they stand on sugar/porridge issue?
I’m curious why it’s dubbed and subtitled. This makes me question the accuracy of the English text, since it may represent a translation of a translation.
Anyway, assuming the text offers a reasonably accurate account, I find it sad and ignorant and somewhat repulsive, but entirely too predictable to get outraged about.
So, that clip was brought to me by the letter or the number…?
The letter ‘D’ - for dead zionist.
I’m just guessing, I haven’t actually watched the clip
C is for Car Bomb, it’s good enough for Jews.
MEMRI may be a bit one-track, but they’re reliable, and they certainly know their Arabic.
However, I wonder about that Pepsi comment. Pepsico ended its boycott on Israel over a decade ago, so either the clip is dated, or they’re talking about something else entirely.
I just got it on a mailing list I’m on. So I thought it was new. Turns out it was from May 7, 2002. http://www.memri.org/video/index.html
It seems they’re talking about a consumer boycott of Pepsico, not of a Pepsi boycott of Israel.
The Jews are doing the Pepsi company? Cool. How many shares do I have to buy to nail Sarah Silverman?
Just to point out that nowhere in the Koran does it say that Jews are pigs or apes. Yet again, what you have is fuckwits using religion as an excuse to push political aims. In Islam, Jews are considered to be ‘People of the Book’, i.e. one of the people to whom Allah gave guidance. We revere the Torah as we do the Koran, and believe me, I am really fucking pissed off that someone’d spew fucking shite like this in the name of Islam. It makes me fucking mad.
Honestly, though, how is this different from Christian Sunday schools teaching young kids that the Jews are going to hell because they don’t believe in Jesus?
Robin
It isn’t, but Rune has a bug in his bonnet about Islam, and any cursory read of his threads show that.
I know, I’m just feeling a bit peckish this morning.
Robin
I can only speak from my own experiences, but my Sunday school never once mentioned hell in any context. It certainly didn’t single out any specific faith for condemnation. From where I’m sitting, the two couldn’t be more different.
What’s your point? That if some people do disgusting things, others get a free pass? If that’s the kind of thing the spew in Sunday schools around where you live, then they’re just as disgusting. Personally I’ve never heard of a Sunday school around these parts that taught that Jews or Muslims are pigs and apes – let alone put it on TV, but I shall take your word for it. But I shall remember this for the next Chick Tract pitting I read. “Yeah but honestly, how’s Chick showing kids in hell any different from what they teach on state controlled Egyptian children’s TV?” . And I see you yourself have posted a number of times in Chick Tract threads – so apparently you are no fan of religious inspired bigotry. So why do you feel a need to downplay when it’s done in this instance?
dud… You are an idiot. I’ve got a bug up my bonnet about most things in this world - including Islam. But I’m sorry to say that less than 5% of my posts are about Islam. But those that are apparently must have shocked you so much they left you deeply impressed.
Believe me, I’m not downplaying religious intolerance in any context, especially since I’m Jewish.
My point is that intolerance is intolerance no matter what faith spews it, my own included. Muslim kids parrotting an adult that Jews are pigs and apes aren’t much different from Christian kids parrotting an adult that Jews (or Muslims) are going to hell because they don’t believe in Jesus. I don’t think Bismallah knows what a Jew is.
(FTR, some churches profess that people who haven’t accepted Jesus and achieved salvation will go to hell. I know this because I’ve been on the receiving end of that party line more times than I care to think about, and I’m sure other Jews on the board have too.)
Robin
Actually I do see a big difference between teaching kids (do Sunday school even take them as young as 3yo? – I don’t think we have Sunday schools in Denmark) that all non-believers will go to hell in the afterlife, and singling out one specific group for contempt and hatred in this life and saying they’re monkeys and pigs and such. But that’s another question, and even saying worse things happen in Sunday school, I still can’t see how your posts can be seen as anything but downplaying this instance. Yes intolerance is intolerance. And in this instance it was done by an Egyptian women. Do we need to compare with New York Sunday schools, Indian Hindu schools and Pakistani Koran schools every time we bring up a thread about some other thing? Would you be happy if in the next Chick Tract pitting I went by and said that, that’s nothing compared to what they do in Egypt?
MsRobyn: Some of us Christians have been on the receiving end of the “you’re going to hell” party line professed by some other Christians. It’s very sad to see a 3 year old girl parrotting that trash.
I’ll attest to that one.
And it works the other way, too. I recall in one of my hebrew school classes we were being taught the tale of Noah and the ark and in the pictures the people left behind to drown all had afros, flat noses and big lips.
Feh, and people ask me why I don’t dig religion.
