Sesame Street the Egyptian way

It’s not the indoctrination that makes the clib disturbing, it’s the fact that it’s a clip. From television.

Yes, you’ll find examples of children being indoctrinated into hateful philosophies in the US. But you won’t find such indoctrination being glorified on television like that. That clip is the sign of an evil culture.

The clip appeared on the MEMRI site, which is a translation service. It appeared on Saudi TV.

We may not glorify that sort of thing on mainstream TV, but we do have religious channels like Trinity Broadcast Network that does seek to inculcate Christian values to children.

So what? Does the Trinity Broadcast Network teach children that Jews are pigs?

TBN produces automatons. Palestinian TV produces “martyrs.” That’s the difference.

I honestly try to be understanding of religions, and I recognize that they do a lot of good, but I do not see how you can expect people to accept holy truths without any evidence and still be able to ferret out any side messages that their teachers insert.

It seems inevitable that religious (and for that matter secular) instructors will insert their own prejudices and culture of the day into their religion. In some cases this is bad (The Jewish pig-apes from the broadcast) and in some cases good (the much greater tolerance in most branches of Christianity from how it used to be), but it is always dangerous. What might have been an idea people could be show to be harmful or wrong is then religious doctrine to be contradicted only be evil heretics.

In the secular realm it is not so dangerous as the idiocies a teacher may tell me may be important to me, but they are not part of my core belief system, and are therefore more easily altered.

Well, it’s not really surprising, look at who Bert’s been known to hang with.

If they begin learning at three, there may be more than I thought.

The Egyptians show the way – why stop when you’re on a roll.

  • but I guess we have Sunday schools which are worse, so why worry.

I get al Manar on the little commie foreign satellite receiver. Why don’t I get to see stuff like this?
