Seven assault convictions, yet a 'champion' in the boxing ring -- Floyd Mayweather

One wonders who you think the OP was suggesting “permitted” Mayweather to box.

Various boxing organizations, the arenas that cooperated, the public for wanting to watch, etc.

I guess it depends on whether or not they know who he is. Boxing isn’t the big thing it used to be. Truth be told I think 99 out of 100 people wouldn’t know who Floyd Mayweather was to see him.

You also have to ask yourself; when he does get special treatment, is it because they respect Floyd Mayweather as a person, or because they respect the money he’s got?

Yeah, but all he did was assault multiple women. It’s not like he refused to deliver flowers to a gay wedding. That would merit a boycott.

That Mayweather guy is a thug!!

Half of the U.S. congress has a ‘criminal record’; officially recorded or otherwise. My point relates to the abuse of females specifically.

I think you’ll find that statement renders any ensuing opinion you may have concerning this subject matter null and void. (Where did you whelp from – an egg?! :dubious: )

Ummm… How about, because he is…(?)

I’m not “doing” anything; especially bullying those weaker than I. Nor do I need pop culture role models, much less those as shallow as today’s so-called “entertainers”. My concern is for those suggestible and impressionable kids who look up to these dubious leads – those whose neural pathways are still forming and vulnerable to perversion.

It’s about the abuse of trust and violation of the weak and vulnerable. Whether sex, violence or psychology (or a combination thereof) is used as the weapon of choice, is incidental.

If you asked me if I’d prefer a guy who exposed himself in front of my child have the book thrown at him or rather the guy who broke my child’s nose, I’d condemn the latter each and every time.

US$180 million for foxy boxing a welterweight, wearing padded gloves. in a controlled environment (‘controlled’ largely by Mayweather’s camp, no less!), is hardly “work”. At least not in the context of what most of the world construes the definition of the term as.

Not given his record regard such transgressions, nor in the context of how ‘protected’ he was by the Nevada jurisdiction.

Many may have. But if they wanted to demonstrate their disdain for the guy, appearing to support his endeavours is hardly the prudent way of going about it. Or the most frugal – how many Third World families could have been fed on the cost of just one ringside seat at this “Fight of the Century”?

Not quite. A closer look at this particular case reveals that Mayweather, as a benefactor to the Nevada economy, far outweigh the apparent debt he owes to society. And that’s to say nothing of how blinded by dollar bills justice in the U.S. infamously is – if the boxing glove fits, you must acquit!

I initially did not care because I knew nothing of Mayweather and more of Pacquiao for his regal-like status in the impoverished Philippines than from actually witnessing his pugilistic exploits. As far as I’m concerned, boxing died as ‘entertainment’ when its heavyweight division became a joke. However, I did get wind of Mayweathers myriad failings, so I now care enough to direct ire towards the guy and those that facilitate and feed parasitically from his illegitimate success.

Another reason to avoid processed junk food poisons.

ah yes, the females. Tips fedora.

ok

and yet here you are again. He’s not. He’s just a boxer. Do something about your rolemodels.

You’re a champion for the moral weak and lesser beings of society. Check. Then I suggest raising your children not to supplicate at the altar of sluts and druggies.

Women (the females) are as a group not weak and vulnerable, and need no special protection from you or anybody else.

:golf clap:

This is a surprisingly good point (or it might be, at least) – misogyny may be more ingrained and acceptable in our society than homophobia.

Does this happen, or it is complete fantasy? Were thousands of impressionable children turned into cokeheads by Keith Hernandez? Was there a vast increase in dog abuse because of Michael Vick? Just how many children are being perverted, to use your term, by Floyd Mayweather?

We are talking about Mayweather here, it’s not like he hasn’t done that too. Several times i believe. Someone should’ve explained to him he was supposed to hug his wife and punch the other boxer, not the other way around.

“Women”? How many women did he beat up?

Or are you exaggerating for effect in a specious attempt to make what he did and I supposedly think look even worse?

But I digress. The streets are full of guys convicted of beating their wives and/or children, and mostly they’ve served a fraction of the time they were sentenced to because of liberal efforts to make sure criminals do as little time as humanly possible, even violent ones. It’s nothing these days to see a criminal in his twenties or thirties walking the streets with rap sheets a mile long for violent crimes.

Still, we have laws to deal with such crimes and once someone has served their sentence they are supposed to be able to rejoin society and attempt to become a productive member of it.

But when it comes to what I refer to as PC hot-button issues the law has little to do with the consequences. Say the wrong word, utter the wrong opinion, or demur from whole-hearted support for whichever hot-button issue has the PC crowd in an uproar at the time, and it’s become de rigueur for people to be boycotted or get fired from careers they’ve worked years and years to build. It’s ridiculously out of proportion to whatever harm their actions have actually caused (in many cases, not much) and it’s getting worse all the time. Tyranny is still tyranny even if it’s in support of what one considers a good cause.

For all you boxing fans - there’s a terrific eBay auction going on. A bag of air from the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight is available, with bidding starting at 99 cents!

If $99 to watch the fight on pay-per-view seemed exorbitant, this has gotta be a real bargain.

When it comes to homophobic bigotry Pacquiao is an all star, I haven’t heard anything about boycotting him either, so no it isn’t really a good point.

more than one. Why? how many would it take for you to change you opinion of him?

precious few of those people are given such riches and adulation as Mayweather and that sticks on the throat of people who deplore such crimes.

But we don’t and shouldn’t necessarily give them an easy ride nor forget what they did. They shouldn’t be officially punished any more but they do and should have to live with the consequences that come from public opprobrium.

and how interesting that you choose three non-violent acts to rail against instead of saying “punch the wrong woman, abuse the wrong child, steal the wrong item”

And believe it or not on the subject of thought crimes I’d agree with you but none of that has anything to do with Mayweather being a misogynistic, violent thug.

I can only think of four, and I don’t know if banning him from boxing will stop them from being perverted.

According to the convictions listed in his Wikipedia page, at least four.

Ah, but news of Pac Man’s anti-gay-marriage stance essentially came and went and is hardly ever mentioned again by US big media, while Money’s violence issues were being brought up by various commentators during the days leadng to the fight.

And then get the “contrast” made between them in the prefight “biopic” video montages, with Manny being devout, civic-minded, musically inclined, humble; while Floyd is being urban tough and throwing cash around flouting wealth and swagger and generally being the opposite of “humble”. They are both guys who made it super big in a dirty game that’s not known to care for moral uprightness, but is not hesitant to cast a morality play if it helps ratings.

You tell me:

Was I exaggerating, or simply going by what is already known? Obviously not by you – you are great at making yourself look bad.
