Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather fight - it's time to rumble.

I didn’t realize there’s such a height difference. Quite noticeable in this photo. Their weights are nearly the same.

Really don’t have a favorite. Let the best man win.

Does this fight have a name, like “The Rumble in the Jungle” for example?

Perhaps:
“The Sort of Greats Doing it Late”

But I wouldn’t know how well “sort of greats” fits.

I’m debating whether its worth 90 bucks on pay per view.

That seems a bit too high. Considering how many people will pay times $90. Thats an incredible payout for the promoters and HBO/Showtime. Maybe too big a payout? Bigger audiences means more people can share the cost of the event. Should cost less.

There’s always the chance it will end 20 seconds into the first round. Kiss your $90 bye bye.

Interesting. Here in Mexico, it is free!

Boxing matches were free most of my early life too. Saw a lot of championship title fights on ABC with Howard Cosell. FREE!

I’ve decided against getting shaken down. I would have paid $25 for a pay per view fight. Maybe $35. $90 is rubbing salt in a wound.

I will look around for blogs that give live updates. Follow the fight that way.

The Clash For Cash?

They’re calling it The Battle for Greatness. Based on the almost universal perception of the fight it should be called The Predictable Outcome.

It’s really damn difficult to see this fight in Vegas. The MGM has banned other casinos from showing it, and the bars that are authorized are charging a hefty cover price. Fuck if I’m going anywhere near the MGM - there are probably 100,000 people in there. The normal 20 minute walk from the parking lot to the relevant ends of the casino is probably an hour through human waves.

I was staying at the Luxor one weekend years ago when Bernard Hopkins was fighting Oscar De La Hoya. I went to the MGM Grand and it was downright scary. It was full of LA gangbangers. There was security all over. I was at a craps table and a black dude with mad bling and a face grille sat down next to me. He said “I need your seat.” I didn’t know what he meant, then he nodded at his girlfriend standing behind me. I looked back and there was $200 in front of my chip stack. He said “Now get the f out of here”. I took the cash and didn’t look back. Scary time. It was less than 10 years after the Tupac shooting after a fight.

Just saw this on Comcast’s FB page:

Me too.

I’m guessing there are a lot of irate fight fans out there tonight!

I can’t believe they didn’t time it better for the East coast. It’s 11:41 PM here! Get on with it!

How long do these things last?

12 rounds? 3 minutes per round. I think.

Yes, 15 round fights are not allowed anymore, it’s against the rules now. All professional rounds are 3 minutes.

So with times-out and such, maybe an hour?

Yep.

About time!

we already waited 5 years so…

So it should be over now, right?

(I just want to be able to watch TV.)
