Anybody remember a novelty song from the late mid or late seventies called, I think, “Eugene”?
It was a novelty disco song, with a monologue by a guy named Eugene as he tried to pick up babes in a disco.
The chorus, if I remember right, was same disco babes making fun of him for being a nerd.
All I remember was him telling one of them his name, “Uh, uh, uh, Eugene.”
Ringing any bells for anyone?
Yeah, I remember that song. It’s been a long time since I heard it, so out of curiosity, just a few weeks ago I was seeing if I could track it down on Napster. I don’t know who did the song, though; couldn’t find it.
I’m not sure if this is the same song, but my “Bubbling Under the Hot 100” book lists a ditty called “Eugene” by “Crazy Joe and the Variable Speed Band”, which peaked at #105 on the U.S. Billboard chart in early 1981. The book also lists this song as a novelty record, although it doesn’t say if it was disco or not. Not surprisingly, this was the group’s only “hit record”.
Remember it, I HAVE it.
Ace Frehley of KISS had something to do with it, producer or something. The group was Crazy Joe and the Variable Speed Band.
I remember it. “My name is uhh-Eugene”
“I stick my hands in fans for fun.
My name is - uh, uh, Eu-gene.”
God, I remember that song… we had a kid in my 5th grade class who thought it was the most hilarious song ever written and would go around singing it daily. Even brought in his crappy old portable tape deck/radio to play it one.
That was early '81, since I was in fifth grade that year.
