Sex and Happiness

Recently I was directed to this site.

This discussed the physical health benefits of sex. Now the source strikes me as less than credible, but I’m wondering what if any of thier content is accurate.

Also, branching from this health idea, has there ever been any study looking at the frequency of sexual intercourse and overall happiness in a person or a couple. Since happy people probably have sex more often it would seem like common sense , but my University’s search turned up nothing.

Speaking as researcher, all the variables involved are so difficult to quantify and so confounded with other things that any conclusions would be either highly arguable or so glaringly obvious as to be pretty much worthless.

MMMMM…I BELEIVE it was Discover Magazine that published an article linking hormones (not endorphins) released during orgasm to an overall state of well being. The main player is the same hormone that is released during lactation which is also a happy-producing passtime.

I don’t know if guys get the same hormone release, but that men who get plenty of sex are generally happy men is no mystery.

There was a flurry of news articles last year about how semen might be an antidepressant (relevant Google search brings up a number of articles).

Yes. And if anyone is looking for an inexpensive steady supply of fresh semen …

Ever consider that happy men get more sex?

That matches my experience… When I’m miserable, I get none. When I’m feelin’ good about myself & the world, I get all I want, and maybe a bit more.

My working hypothisis: Women don’t like a wet blanket any more than I do.

OK, who’s going to use the straight line…?

Google on oxytocin, the “hormone of love and happy attachment”. For instance http://www.oxytocin.org/oxytoc/ .
