Sex change operation question

No, I’m not entertaining any ideas.

But the question came up during a conversation. When gender reassignment is pursued, is any attention paid to altering the subject’s Adam’s apple?

Nope. My niece looked into this, and found that the only thing you can do is try to hide it with make-up.

Somewhere I read there is an operation to “shave” the adam’s apple so it isn’t so prominent. Don’t know any details but as they go to such great lengths to change their bodies it seems logical that there would be a way to change the adam’s apple, too. There’s not much one can do about the huge hands and feet, though.

Adam’s apples can be reduced surgically, and the procedure is often done in male-female conversions. There was a two-part series on CBC’s The National about this last month.

Everyone who said that the Adam’s apple is reduced surgically is correct. This site has a lot of useful information on the entire process.

Thanks, Otto, for the link. I’ll send it to my niece.

Tell anyone concerned to be wary of this operation (the throat one, I mean, not the Main Event). A friend of mine who had her Adam’s apple “shaved” wound up with a voice like Minnie Mouse on helium.

If the person in question is doing it to make her deep voice higher, advise her to spend the money instead on a good voice coach, who will do the same thing non-surgically. If it’s for appearances’ sake, have her figure out if it’s worth it, possibly ruining her voice.
