I’m not sure if you’re kidding or exaggerating, but what you’ve described here is physical abuse. If your wife needs to strike you to settle her anger, I’d suggest that she needs some counselling.

yeah, it’s exaggeration - no worse than the rough-housing my brothers and I used to engage in when we were younger

but in the same way some people go and do 10 rounds in a boxing ring to relieve some tension, it doesn’t automatically follow that a physical expression of anger towards a partner is 100% a “bad thing”

I’d rather have a dead leg than a degrading comment, to be honest

I got you. The Lady Mung and I are really physical and she’s not afraid to sock me in the arm if I say something dumb. Her preferred method of damaging me physically is pinching me with her toes. Hurts like HELL, lemme tell ya, but no permanent marks. I’d rather be pinched than anything else.

It sounds like a high-school girl tactic to me. That goes for using crying to get your way, too. Grown-up women realize that they aren’t going to get their way on every issue, and there will be many compromises with their mates because they have valid opinions and wants, too.

I cry when I get angry; it’s not manipulation, it’s just what happens. Neither do I feel like sex when I’m angry. I think this whole issue stems from misinterpretation of what a lot of women experience and do because of the reprehensible behavior of a few.
