Sex & The City final episode - SPOILERS

Supposedly they shot three possible endings to help contain leaks. Any word on what the other two endings were?

Haj

Or C.K. Dexter Haven?

So, you could say, that Johnny Hates Jazz? :::d+r::::

I haven’t read through the rest of the thread yet, so forgive me if someone else already addressed this.

I have to disagree with you on this. Smith is a struggling actor/waiter and Samantha makes more money in PR. Steve is a bartender and Miranda is an attorney who makes more money. Carrie has been with Aiden, the furniture maker and Berger, the struggling author. Based on her shoe collection alone, I would guess she makes more money than they did.

So, they may be vain and self-absorbed, but I wouldn’t say that they are golddiggers.

Wouldn’t it be great if his full name were simply…John Smith?

FWIW I agree, the russian was shown to be an asshole way before the move to France. As I posted elsewhere, he had nothing but contempt for NYC and Carrie’s relationship with both the City and her friends.

The first half hour of the episode absolutely sucked and the last 15 minutes weren’t much better but at least something happened. I’m OK with how they wrapped everything up BUT:

  1. Turning Aleksandr into a dick was unnecessary.
  2. The scene with Big being in the car and not seeing Carrie plus the scene in the hotel sucked.
  3. “Absofuckinglutely”: lame. I know it was an attempt to bring things full circle back to the pilot (in the pilot she asks Big if he’s ever been in love and that’s his response)
  4. Plainly, she shouldn’t have gone to Paris until the show opened.
  5. John? JOHN???

I thought this episode suffered from the same problems the show has had for a few years: scenes that did little to advance the story or were completely irrelevant to the ultimate story. That’s too bad because I thought the writing this season was pretty good–things happened and the stories went somewhere instead of meandering through very, very boring territory.

  1. One more time: he was an asshole long before they got to Paris. He was an asshole since the first time they slept together. You know, I always see women with guys and I say “why is she with that asshole?” It’s starting to dawn on me after reading this thread: some women can’t recognize an asshole when they see one, until he beats them over the head with it.

  2. I thought they were both non-sucky.

  3. “What-fucking-ever”

  4. Is this a critique of the show or of Carrie’s decision?

  5. Why’s this have everyone panties in a twist? What should it have been, Fred? FRED??? Mike? MIKE??? Joey Joey Joe Joe. . .Bob? JOEY JOEY JOE JOE. . .BOB??? It was John – six years of speculating and it was just plain old regular “John”. That’s kind of funny. It’s like the opposite of Alexandr Petrovsky.

I do agree the first 20 minutes or so was kind of slow. I don’t agree the show has suffered for years, though.

I think there was ample foreshadowing that Petrovsky would leave Carrie alone and feeling abandoned in Paris. He’s one of those guys who lavishes you with love and attention when he has time, and when he doesn’t, you have to take a backseat to his interests, which will always be Priority One. What I really didn’t like was that pseudo-smack he gave her, accidentally on purpose. Though I did think he was a self-absorbed egotist, I didn’t like the insinuation that he could hurt Carrie.

As for Big being an asshole, well, I think the message of the final episode was, people change. Miranda learned to love, be compassionate, and give of herself to her family without rancor. That is a long way for her to come from Season 1. Samanatha learned to accept love and monogamy, to revel in the joys of someone she can trust and who can be part of her life. Charlotte changed so much to be with Harry-- she gave up her religion, her shallow need to be with beautiful men, and her desire to give birth (not due to Harry). Carrie finally realized that her life, career, friends, and goals should not be secondary to a man’s, and Big came to the shocking realization, which I’ve known since Season 1, that Carrie is The One.

I loved the show, and though the ending was a bit sentimental, aren’t fond goodbyes always?

I saw a clip of Chris Noth on some talk show in which he described one of the alternate endings. Big professes his love for Carrie and she replies, “It’s too late.” Then she turns and walks away. Don’t know about the other ending though.

I would have preferred that particular ending. I don’t buy Big’s sudden realization that Carrie is The One after years of commitment-phobia. It’s nice fluff, but not very realistic, IMHO.

So now that Steve and Miranda are married, is the baby called Brady Hobbs still?
Is he Brady Hobbs Brady?
What about Brady Brady?

Enquiring minds want to know.

I think it’s what happens to Miranda in context of the other women that bothers me:

Samantha gets the man of her dreams.

Carrie gets the man of her dreams.

Charlotte gets the baby of her dreams.

Miranda gets … to care for a stroke victim. In Brooklyn.

Indeed… indicated that he would hit her, what?!

Maybe this is because I’m a guy, but I didn’t think Petrovsky was an asshole in New York. Hell, the guy was under a massive deadline, causing him to work 24/7. You kinda get a litte cranky when that happens. They definitly ratched up the asshole quality when he got to Paris. At that time he just ignored her and didn’t give a crap about her. Something he didn’t really do that much in NY.

But Miranda already has the man of her dreams in Steve. The big thing was finding love. And Miranda realized that love comes in many forms.

They might be happy, but it wasn’t a happy ending:

Carrie loses out on the jetset life she admired in exchange for John, who she had already tried out and found lacking.

Charlotte gets a China-baby, certainly not her first choice. It shows how far she’s come that she’s estatic over it.

Samantha gets cancer

Miranda gets to wash an old woman she doesn’t like in Brooklyn.

Maybe it shows their maturity that they are all pleased over the turn of events, but it sure wasn’t a HAPPY ending.
