I am continually surprised at the lack of knowledge about basic sex terms and, for that matter, birth control. I remember the look on a friend’s face as I explained to her that yes, cunnilingus and muff-diving were the same thing.
Me too. I’ve met so many people who have no idea how the Pill works, when a woman can get pregnant, etc.
I was a precocious reader (reading chapter books at 4) and knew all the terms but the “eew!” factor was pretty high for me at the age of 10 or so when I found a book explaining everything.
Never got “the talk” either. Mom and dad just made it clear that “Nice girls don’t do THAT” and then put such strict rules on me that it’s a wonder I escaped.

I think between The Joy of Sex, and a variety of porn magazines taught me both the proper and slang terms for pretty much everything. All of this was read pretty early on in my sex life.
I really did think that everyone had heard of them. I would say that all of my friends are familiar with a variety of terms.
Until I was 14, I thought that dildo was just an insult, not an actual object. Same thing with douche-bag.

I think it’s kind of sad that there are adults out there who don’t know what some of those words mean, let alone what they are. I think everyone should be as informed about sex as they can so they can enjoy it as much as possible.

I’ve posted it before, but my own sexual education began extraordinarily early. I found a couple of “how to” books on sex when I was six and read them front to back. I was very surprised when high school came around and I was the ONLY guy who knew what “fellatio” and “cunnilingus” were. It’s even funnier in retrospect, since guys I knew then now tell me everyone thought I was a geek who couldn’t get laid if his life depended on it!
I would say I know 99% of what there is to know about sex. But that doesn’t mean I’d ever try all of it. Genital torture, golden showers, brown showers, BDSM, fetishes (foot, latex, leather) auto-erotic asphyxiation, fisting, voyeurism, and zoophilia (a.k.a. bestiality) are a few of the things I won’t do. There are others, but I’m getting a little grossed out.
Here’s a little test: When you read “BDSM” above, did you know what I meant?
Mrs. Kunilou and i have been married for 20 years. She actually has taught sex education to her students from time to time. Yet she simply did not recognize a fairly common vulgar synonym for a body part (it really spoiled the punchline of the joke I was telling her.)

I’ll tackle WAG, anyway. It’s an acronym for “wild-assed guess”. You’re on your own for felching and squicking. I’m repressed and darn proud of it. You can probably do an archive search for those terms and learn everything you wanted to know and then some. WARNING: Just learning what felching is is more than you want to know!
I’m familiar with most of the terms used here and I have led a fairly sheltered life (you should see my score on the purity test!). But I do like to know what words mean and I seldom let an new word go unresearched. Researching some words leads to learning other new words, etc., etc. So somehow I’ve accumulated some vocabulary that might surprise people who know me IRL.
I do, however, have a question about a term I’ve heard frequently and understand vaguely but have never heard a definition. What is meant by “mutual masturbation”? I know what “mutual” means and I know what “masturbation” means, but that still leaves a lot of room for interpretation. Does this describe masturbating in each other’s presence, or does it mean giving each other hand-jobs, or something different yet?
