After a longish printing-related delay, the books have arrived and they are lovely. Haven’t had a chance to read them yet but they look very nicely done inside and out. I got two stories into this one and have already entered for next year’s contest and book.
I don’t want to be a wet blanket, but if you had to pay a $10 entry fee, this contest might not entirely be on the up-and-up.
If you’re serious about becoming a SF writer (and it looks like you are), it would be a good idea to check out This Section of the website of the Science Fiction Writers of America. There are a lot of scam artists out there (and other kinds of dubious projects as well), and it pays to do your homework beforehand.
Not to worry. I have been at this for some time. I did receive my check some time ago and it didn’t bounce, got the award certificates, and got the books–two at a discount, one for entering and one as a bonus because of the printing delay.
I have had a lot of stuff published in small press and also in many legit contests’ anthos. I do appreciate the concern, though.
Hijacking my own thread (would that be a Myjack?), I should also mention the Writers’ Digest contest which occurs every year. The deadline has passed, but they’ll be running again next year. Very legit, and I got money and a certificate and Writer’s Market from them in the past.
If you have a SF or other story of 4k words or less, you can enter it. Many other categories available too.
