SF Bay Area last minute dopefest?

Cat Whisperer and entourage are touring the western US (see this thread) and will be stopping in San Francisco on their way back to Canada. They don’t know when yet.

But I, big mouth that I am, suggested a few local dopers might like to meet up with them and each other when they are here.

So in advance of knowing when, maybe we can establish where? I think preferably in SF itself or northern Peninsula, I don’t know how far afield they are going to want to go after all the driving they will have already done.

Suggestions for location? Possibility of actually making such a meeting on short notice? Comments? I missed the last SF dopefest so I look forward to meeting with some of y’all.

I’m on call this week, but I can make it up to SF next week after work. Someplace within walking distance of BART would be best for me.

Possibly - near transit is best for me. I’ll keep an eye on this thread

I’m good with the 16th/Mission suggestion, or anywhere else along the BART corridor. I wouldn’t mind hitting the Palace Hotel Bar to check out the newly-restored Pied Piper or cruising the Embarcadero food trucks.

I guess it depends on where our intrepid Canadian Road Trippers are staying…eh?

Hi Everybody! Finally getting a few moments to catch up - vacations are exhausting. :slight_smile: We plan to start heading north out of San Diego some time on Saturday most likely, reaching San Francisco on Sunday. We will probably be staying in San Francisco for Sunday and Monday, leaving on Tuesday. Monday would be our best night for meeting people for dinner. We don’t know where we’ll be staying in the San Francisco area - where dinner will be doesn’t really matter to us, since we are travelling by car. If you guys know a good place, that works for us. :slight_smile:

I’m campaigning to stay in Cupertino our first night in the area so I can be as close to the Apple homeland as possible and worship at the altar of Our Lord Steve Jobs, but we have no firm strategy on locations just yet in the area. :slight_smile:

I live around 15 mins away from Berkeley. I am a single mom and Monday is a school night. I would love to meet some fellow dopers however!!!
I’ll see what I can do.

If you’re a computer nerd at all, the Computer History Museum is well worth a visit. If you do end up staying in Cupertino, I’m about 10 minutes away. If you can’t make it to SF, I’m up for meeting up in the south bay somewhere.

Monday night? I am interested and not too far away. Please keep us posted. Work has been crazy lately and I might not be able to escape.

I work Monday nights, but I vote for the Pied Piper, and the chance to visit the Palace hotel, which survived the '06 earthquake & fire.

I can be at the Palace Hotel on Monday at 6pm. For those taking BART, it’s about a block from the Montgomery station.

I’ve never done a dopefest before, how do we recognize each other?

It looks like Monday at the Pied Piper will work best for us - we have a long day of driving on Sunday, and don’t want to make an appointment that we might not be able to keep!

We recognize each other by the people who come in and start looking around, looking kind of lost. :slight_smile: Hah, just kidding - Jim will be the guy in the Los Angeles Dodgers Lasorda t-shirt. I’ll be with him.

An update on our hotel - it looks like we’re going to try to get a room in Pacific Heights - the Pied Piper should work great then!

I’ll be wearing my “I LOVE IDAHO!” shirt. (just kidding, I’ll have a blue baseball cap on). I’ll check the thread for any changes in time/place before I head up after work tomorrow.
