SF short story geeks needed

OK, I remember a short story. In it, there is no more real war. Dudes play little wargames, which can indeed have deaths. In one of these mini-wars, our hero wakes up to find the battle-field cleared of all but him and the dead. Then the dead start walking. The author has thought up a reasonable sounding reason why there could be real-life zombies- as short-term abulatory hosts for bacteria.
Title? Author?

Anyone?

Night on Mispec Moor by Larry Niven?

Ooh, I love Night on Mispec Moor. Here is a very nice audio version of it (read by Warren W. James).

How apposite, to have this reply from this user name.

Thanks, Dude! You too, pinkfreud.

And, a bit more trivia, if anyone is interested. The cycle of stories which includes Mispec Moor have planet names and places taken from the books of James Branch Cabell. His stories are allegorical, more or less, so the place names are often anagrams. This includes Mispec Moor.
