I know someone (A FOAF but we have met a few times) who is not one of the stars but is a named castmember of a Jersey based reality show set in a hair salon that shall remain nameless. I was shocked at how little he makes. If it blows up like Jersey Shore or the Housewives show they can command a good salary. Otherwise you are just a small cog in the big machine to be replaced by a less squeeky wheel if you complain.
Did find one cite. He was paid $1000 per episode for season 1. 13 episodes. You do the math. They were getting a salary jump in the second season but still not FU money.
So season 2 would be $4k an episode minus whatever that fancy management team was taking off the top.
Still not that much…maybe a year of college paid for or a new truck bought?

It was the eye-rolling tastelessness of holding a “mudding event” to raise money for the funeral of a guy who died while “mudding” that I was mocking.

They got shitface drunk, went “mudding” at 3 am, got the truck stuck in a mudhole so deep it submerged the tailpipe, then they all floated away on CO to Hillbilly Heaven.

I don’t think anyone could argue he died doing something stupid (mudding after closing down a bar he’d been drinking at til 3am), but I do sort of object to the “southern thing” ignorant comment. Mudding is big as far north as Alberta and is much more part of “redneck” culture than “southern” culture. Redneck and southern are not synonymous, and I’ve never quite understood why people make them out to be.
Southern rednecks talk differently than people from French Lick, but that doesn’t mean people from French Lick aren’t rednecks.

The objectionable part is saying “stupid redneck died because he’s a stupid redneck” rather than “stupid redneck died because he’s stupid”.
Like whoever upthread invoked race, it’d be like “of COURSE that inner city minority died of smoking a bad batch of crack.”
Yes, it was questionable - even bad behavior but it’s not behavior that’s limited to inner city minorities, certainly not a behavior caused because the victim was an inner city minority, and it’s just plain in bad taste to pass judgment so freely.
Again, I understand where people are coming from but it still doesn’t really sit with me right.
MTV is stepping up and paying the costs of Shain’s funeral.
That should help the family. They still have his uncles funeral to pay for.
Part way through filming season 2 MTV pulls the plug. Not too surprising at this point.
