Shameless self-promotion on Fox News

I think Fox News (both TV and Radio) today really pushed news to a low direction. They mentioned that there were a few caucauses today, but that turnout might be low because of “American Idol.” Is it just me or is that a new low in journalism. I can see how a major sporting event or (gag) the last episode of Friends could influence turnout. But, to me this just seems like a disgusting way to promote “American Idol” during a news broadcast.

BTW, I am also sick of the “Survivor” forecast on my local news.

More discussing that the unending drone of the sensational (but newsworthy) next murder mystery that captures the focus of CBS, NBC, ABC? Don’t mean to appear cold, but these stories are there to make the networks money (i.e. shameless self-interest) and have no or very little significance in the world.

Isn’t it redundant to have the words “shameless” and “Fox News” in the same sentence?

I believe Hawaii’s turnout is expected to be lower because a popular Hawaiian singer is appearing on American Idol, so I guess there’s some truth to it.

Yes, CNN is reporting the same thing.

dale: You might find a better audience for this thread in the BBQ Pit or in Cafe Society.

This could be a debate (“Is it unethical for TV news programs to promote their station’s own shows?” or something), but I think it’ll do better in the Pit.

It’s actually based on a something from a source who definitely would not be a fan of Fox News, as seen in this AP story

The contestant is ethnic Hawaiian, so I can see why it’s a big deal. Not exactly a group that gets a lot of people on TV.

Let me get this straight, large numbers of people aren’t bothering to vote because American Idol is on?

Jesus, and I thought I was overly negative when I wrote my sig (the second line, anyway).

Would having the ‘show your signature’ box checked be helpful? 'Course it would.

This is why I get all my news from fark.com.

I can’t. He stank!

They don’t have VCRs or Tivo in Hawaii?

I bet all those people who stayed home wished they’d gone to vote instead. What a hideous hideous song.

Apparently not. And I guess the polls are only open for an hour, because obviously no one would have time to go out and vote before or after the TV show.
