Shameless US premiere (spoilers)

Plus with Sheila his role is pretty passive.

I wonder if Steve/Jimmy will rescue the boys by turning himself in and getting his rich family to bail him out. Lip taking the rap in the scenes from next week is amazingly sweet.

Did you recognize Louise Fletcher (Oscar winner for Nurse Ratched) as Grammy?

Was it explained why Steve/Jimmy is using a false name? I assume “Jimmy” is the real one?

Almost nothing’s been explained, including how and why he keeps a girlfriend in Lake Forest when he never sees her and how he keeps his family thinking he’s in medical school (something you’d think would be easy to check) or why a guy from a very rich family- even an unhappy one- would risk incarceration for car theft.

And what’s up with the mouth-kissing PTA mom? Do you think she wants a three-way with Fiona and Steve or just a 1-on-1 with Fiona or for her to be a surrogate mother for her and her husband or something else entirely?

I’m betting on the husband being a producer of adult films, who will offer Fiona a huge paycheck.

Kind of a lackluster season finale- nothing that really has you waiting with bated breath for next year. We knew Fiona wasn’t going to go with him- the surprise was that she came as close as the subway.

This was an episode that really made you like Lip: taking the heat for his brother, telling his girlfriend how much he didn’t love her, forgiving her in a fashion after seeing her video (though I don’t think they’ll ever be a couple again), and his “expressing his unhappiness” with Frank who, much as I think he’s a complete waste of flesh and could best serve his family by jumping into the frozen lake after Eddie, did at least take some of his medicine. And besides, this was far from the worst thing he’s done and he can almost say he was raped (drugged and a pretty young piece stroking you, what guy is gonna refuse?)

Speaking of Eddie, do you think he killed himself or will he bob right back up? Either way I’m okay with, though I’d want Frank to die immediately if he robs Sheila of the car money.

I almost died when Sheila mentioned the money she had stashed away. “DON’T TELL HIM YOU IDIOT!”

I wish Fiona had gone with Steve. It would have been much more unexpected and I would have liked to see the family dynamic with her gone, but oh well.

I don’t feel like we got a complete story arc with these 12 episodes.

No, it was more like “Meet the Gallaghers”, no real continuing plot save perhaps for Steve not being who he says he is.

In the past couple of months, we’ve had American adaptions of Shameless, Skins and Being Human airing on various networks. The first episode or two of Shameless was almost word-for-word the same as the UK original (while the other two shows had varying amounts in common with the originals), so I was glad when the show started to go off on its own.

It did go off on its on to some extent but the peeing scene was right out of the UK version. I really was waiting for Steve to set fire to the house he signed over to the cop to mirror the UK version but nope.

All in all a boring season finale after a great season in my opinion. Still, look forward to next year.

Seems like they wrapped up most of the major storylines a few episodes ago and didn’t have anything left for the finale. All that buildup to Fiona finding out the truth about Steve, and it doesn’t amount to more than a slap?

No, thank you; Emmy Rossum is like 80% of the reason I watch this show!

What truth did she find out? I must have missed something, because I don’t recall anyone telling her the truth about “Jimmy.”

Possibly that he’s a car thief, but I thought she already knew that. But I agree that I don’t remember her finding out that his name’s not Steve and that he has a family and fiancee in the Chicago area, all of whom believe that he’s in medical school in Michigan.

As Debbie was about to reveal the whole truth, Fiona stops her and says “I know.” I thought she meant everything (how would she have known?), but she could have just been talking about the car thefts. I was wondering why she’d even consider leaving with him if she knew he’d been lying about his name and fiancee/family…

Just finished catching up. I loved the finale, thought the season just got better and better as it went along. I was more invested in the complete mental breakdown of Sheila’s daughter than with the Gallaghers; having her “get back at daddy” acting out result in her father killing himself will surely destroy her irrevocably. I really hope it comes back for a second season.

FYI, it was renewed, so there will a second season.
