Shameless (US - 2015)

The show I looked forward to most!

Almost all of the male leads - except Ian and Mickey - grew their hair longer. Good to see Lip (how could he leave his beautiful girlfriend at college?!), Kev and the gang. I want some 130 proof beer! How great (rhetoric) is William H Macy? And Emmy Rossum.

Best show on TV and I know nobody IRL that watches it. Nobody.

I thought this was a good start to the gentrification story-line.

I’m at the point that I only really care about Lip’s story and Deb. I could honestly leave just about any of the other characters. Even Frank is only really good for his speeches.

Love the show but as a resident of the Chicago area, the loose way they treat the geography on this show is just maddening.

I loved the premiere but only one thing was missing : Mandy!

Maybe they’ll cast a 3rd actress to play her.

I fucking love this show.

That said, Sammi’s storyline is ridiculous. They’re turning her into the same sort of caricature that Sheila was for a while.

I wanted to punch Ian (much as I know why they went with the hypersexual behavior). Mickey put a lot on the line for him, and now he’s cheating. I do like the crazy setup they have with Svetlana and her girlfriend.

And Fiona really hasn’t learned much, has she? Being without a guy would do her some good. I’m interested to know what the pie shop customer lady knows about why she’s supposed to go and order pie and leave $100 tips.

The diner lady is the woman that was driving w/ Jimmy-Steve in the stinger of the final episode last season. So she’s there for a reason.

I knew that, but I’m wondering what JimmySteveJack told her. “Go spy on this girl and make suggestive pie comments and leave her $100 tips”? And why would the diner lady bother asking Fiona’s coworker how much money she makes? It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that a waitress working day shift at a greasy spoon probably isn’t in the $80k/year salary bracket.

I dunno. I’m just trying out loud, so to speak.

*typing out loud.

Why is Carl on crutches this season? Is it a real-life injury?

Yes, the actor is injured.

I hate Fiona’s storyline right now. Way to learn some insight from your impulsive decisions, Fiona.

I’m enjoying it. A lot of the storylines are “okay how are they going to fuck this up?” and with her and Lip’s stories, I think they may end up being the ones who get fucked.
Guitar hipster seems too perfect and I’m sure there will be something crazy with him (unless the Jimmy plot fucks it up and/or her removing her own house arrest anklet comes back to haunt her).

I feel like Gus has the potential to be crazy controlling. He doesn’t need to sit at the diner all day, every day, and I wonder if it’s that he doesn’t want Fiona to have any interactions without him there. I also feel that she’s being a crap older sister/guardian by not being there for the kids at all while she’s all wrapped up with him, especially because Lip is off in Florida now and Ian is living with Mickey. So…14-year-old Debbie who just had a traumatic experience is in charge? Cool.

Lip’s college girlfriend was dating him because she knew it would piss off her parents. And she invited him to visit their home in Florida (and had sex with him on her parents bed) just to piss him off further. But he was polite to her parents and then bonded with her father. My guess is that she’s going to drop him.

And is Sheila coming back?

I’m not so sure - I noticed that when Lip & Dad were bonding, the girlfriend got a smile on her face.

I can see Lip mounting a rescue mission to Indiana to get Mandy back. I think the show needs those two to be a couple. Hoping Lip gets a job after college, scoops Mandy up and moves out to the suburbs.

Im not so sure either. Dad was prejudiced against Lip due to him thinking Lip was some kind of gold digger, and like others he’s paid off just not good enough for his daughter. but that has passed now that they have a mutual interest in engineering. Girlfriend is only feining pissing off Mom and Dad.

Lip doesn’t love Mandy, but he hates how her life has turned out. The honest thing to do was to let her go. Lip may or may not love Miami girlfriend but in the real world he desperately needs her and her connections so Lip can provide for his improverished family.

I can’t believe it’s been 2 months since we last had a post in this thread, and I really can’t believe tonight is the season finale. It’s going to leave such a void in my life!

Mostly I wanted to bump this up. After the episode airs (and allowing for west coasters to catch up), I’d love to hear everyone’s thoughts on the entire season.

It occurred to me a week or two ago that they introduced the gentrification element to the story and then almost immediately dropped it. Lip did attend a cocktail party down the street with the professor he’s “dating” but aside from that, it hasn’t really figured into the storyline. And is Joan Cusack’s character gone forever?

We binge watched the first four seasons. Over the top, rude, profane, boorish, crude and unrepentant characters. And just when you think they can’t plumb the depths of depravity any deeper, they do.

We fucking love it.

Thinking of watching the British version just to get our fix during the hiatus, even though it’s the same characters and plots.

I hope Sheila is gone for good. Her story arc is at an end: she’s headed out in her RV, house is gone, no kids, no phobia. I’m not a fan of Joan Cusack’s emoting, anyway.

Sammi the psycho is also gone, but I’m betting she returns. What a set of lungs that actress has! When she screamed at Frank to get out back when she first found out about him being her father, I thought my TV screen was going to crack.
