Shameless (US - 2015)

Well I love this show but the finale was a little disappointing. They kind of left alot of things unresolved. I did love the ending in juvy with Carl Vs. Chuckie. Be interesting to see how that turns out.

I thought the finale was excellent. Frank has a heart: who knew?

Was it just me or did that last episode leave it ambiguous whether Debbie was pregnant?

And does anyone remember a couple of episodes ago when Lip met with the guy from financial aid, who advised Lip to take a semester off to straighten out his finances? Lip delivered a great monologue on why if he did so, he’d never return to school, but that he needs to finish so that he can take care of his family. It was moving.

Cliffhanger, obviously. If she is, the bursting of her bubble when her ‘boyfriend’ tells her he’s not interested will be painful.

Lip’s dawning realization about how the world works has been an excellent story arc.

I like that Lip is committed to finishing college; I was afraid that they’d have the character drop out so that he could get a crappy job to help support his siblings. (And so the main cast would all be at that house.)

An aside: tried watching the British version of this show and really disliked the characters. It may just be a case of being used to the American cast, and not getting some of the cultural references and “Britishisms”, though.

I’m the opposite. I started as a big fan of the original UK programme and have seen through the eighth series or so. (The UK version ran for eleven series and 139 episodes, with one series of 22 episodes. So very much an American-style program.) But the cast changed very quickly and after a couple of series the Gallagher family wasn’t even the main focus of the programme.

Dewey Finn did you watch the US version? I was hooked on the UK version and watched halfway through 10 (it just got too crazy to care about). I never picked up the US version for fear that I would dislike it due to not being the British version, but since it is so acclaimed here I am wondering if I should try.

Yep. I was hoping they’d do something interesting with it… but nope. I kind of feel this show does that a lot–like they don’t really plan out an overall arc for the season, they just give characters shit to do. Fiona seems to have consistent character arcs–makes sense since she is the focus of the show–but they’ll introduce new stuff in one episode and then drop it completely. Remember when Mandy was Lady Macbething Lip and Lip was going to take over running the family from Fiona? You don’t? That’s okay they introduced it and then dropped it completely by the next episode.

I love Kev and Vee but the show spends WAY too much time on them.

I thought that they were going to cop out on the terminal cancer patient doctor plot line and have the cancer be a misdiagnosis. At one point during her first night out with Frank, she ignores several phone calls, and I was convinced it was her doctors trying to contact her to tell her the good news.

I was glad that it didn’t go that way.

And, Mickey has somehow become my favorite character over the years.
