Share The Happy

No, not like that, that’s not the sort of happy I meant. You people are incorrigible!

There is enough stress and negative energy in the world generally, and I’ve not been totally happy for a bit now, but coping. Still, sometimes the little things can be the big thing that puts just the right mood lightening touch on the day.
So lets spread the wealth because sometimes, just sometimes, the small joy can transfer over to people who are completely uninvolved.

Share a happy thought or experience from your day today. Give as much detail as you can please.

This afternoon as I pulled into my driveway, all the neighbor kids came zooming up and gathered around my car to ask if the Vaderling was home yet and can he come out and play.
It was almost Rockwellian, with the three boys and one girl, all of them on scooters sort of circled around with me half in and half out of the car, a bag of groceries in one arm and clutching the mail and my keys with my other hand. With the sun coming from the south, lighting the right side of my face, I looked pretty handsome too. In my work uniform, small tattoo just peeking out from under my left sleeve as I smile and explain that Vaderling won’t be home until Sunday as he is going to Pojos Nickel Arcade with Gma this weekend.

I dunno, it was just one of “those moments” yanno?

This morning as I was wandering about the apartment procrastinating going to work my gaze fell upon my recently acquired stupidly large and expensive lego set.

Leeeeegoooo seeeeeeet.

(Honestly, I’m not sure how much more detail I can give. You kind of have to have been there.)

Y’all know my love of Corndogs. I’ll skip that.
I sent a package to a person and they recieved it. It was junky sentimental things. I didn’t even consider insuring it. It made me so happy knowing they had the stuff in their hands.
Another one:
I have a sheet of heavy glass over a desk top in my art room for using an Xacto knife on. Underneath the glass I’ve put mementos. I cleaned off that desk yesterday and saw a little note my Daddy had written and inserted into a letter he’d written. It says nothing of import. His handwriting just made me feel joy.
Thanks for this thread, DorkVader. It also makes me alittle happy to know this board is here and nice people are on it.

Today has been hard. I’m not feeling well. Despite that, I take joy in my dog. Akiko always makes me smile.

Heh heh heh, YESSSSSSSS!
Legos, I totally get it.

Beck, your story about your Daddy’s note made me smile.
And ty for the look see at my test thread experiment.

Sunny, I hope the weekend brings you rest and recovery and I’m glad you have Akiko to help with that. What sort of dog is she(he?)

Today coming home on the Metro there were two little girls playing “Patty cake” in the seat across from me. The older one (maybe 4 or 5) said most of the lines until the little one (maybe 3) excitedly exclaimed “MARK IT WITH A B!!!” with such joy and enthusiasm that I had to smile to myself.

I just had Catfish Simmered in a Clay Pot at Tank Noodle, a Vietnamese restaurant in Chicago. I ate it over rice with a side dish of pickled vegetables. It was mmmmmgoody good good.

I knew about Tank Noodle before Bourdain did.

I was apprehensive about having a group of 7th graders and another group of 8th graders in the library today. The 7th graders especially, since it’s a very big group. They were actually a lot of fun. A class of 1-3rd graders who have vexed me this year had a good 45 minute library time. A second grader remembered exactly how to check out books (including not letting anyone’s total number of books checked out exceed four). The times last year when I made her repeat “I am smart, I will figure it out” a jillion times paid off.

This year has been hard. Hell, the past two years have been hard. Life has gotten worse in so many ways. I don’t have my own dog anymore. But I do love seeing a dog in someone else’s car with his/her head hanging out the window, ears flapping in the breeze. Such simple and pure joy. That always makes me smile.

The girl friend of our nephew (actually the “nephew” is the 39 year old son of my wife’s childhood friend) just told us she is being flown out to interview for her dream job.

I’ve got a hip replacement coming up in a month. Not happy about that.

But, I have all my ducks in a row, I can afford it. And work is cool with it.

I have a loving supportive Wife that will help in every step of the way.

Two good dogs to keep me company while I’m home.

I am among the fortunate.

Kittens! Squee!

Sitting in my lap the other night. Just hangin’ out.

Akiko is my Japanese Akita, whom the Dopers helped me name. She is training to be my service dog.

^ Oh, man, what a face! Beware, though, that beastie KNOWS things!

My team won this evening’s trivia contest, beating out nearly a hundred people. Very gratifying. I’ve still got it…

DC, a cat-lap is always happy, love the pics.

Sunny, is yours, as snuggly cuddly as she looks? I just looked up a little info on the breed, and wow, great dogs but sounds like you really have to be on top of things to be a successful owner of one.
I can’t help it, they just look so snugglable, I’m picturing you curled up in bed all weekened with her and a book and a cup of hot tea.

Loving the stories everyone. It seems like a pretty good start to the weekend, for me anyway.

Hash cat on my lap. Thirteen years old, going on fourteen. Utterly good-natured, unnaturally well-behaved. His brother Scrubby, as good a beast*, snoozing on the bed.
Hot cup of coffee at my elbow, warm with a bit of sun coming in the window, thinking about how good my life is.

*Unfortunately, dumb as a box of rocks, but a sweetheart.

I got my hair cut today! I wear it super-short, and I love it. My regular hair cut person is in SCal, so when we go to AZ for a while, I get pretty shaggy. Mr VOW and I made a quick, one-week trip to SCal so we can go to the memorial for my cousin tomorrow. It was nice to squeeze a hair cut appointment in.

I got my hair cut! Wheeeee!

I looking at exactly 8 milk duds I get to eat tonight. Yay!
One at a time…
Veeeerrrrryyyy slooooowly.

Yesterday I went to see a possible apartment, did take it. The building manager happens to be from Spain like me. The flat is nice; expensive, as it’s all-inclusive and serviced, but on the long run still cheaper than staying in hotels and flying back and forth all the time, both for my wallet and my health. It was my nephew and godson Mark’s birthday; the church next to the apartment building is St. Mark’s.
