Share your Civ3 scores!!!! (or, "Embarass Scrappy!")

A buddy of mine and I have been playing a lot of the ol’ Civ3 recently. I have a little bit more experience with the game than he has, and I’m getting tired of talking smack just to him.

I also need a bit of motivation to get off my current plateau. So I invite the esteemed population of this board to numerically show me just how far I have to go before I can consider myself “good” at this game.

My best score is a little under 5700. I got that by winning the Space Race on Monarch level, playing the Egyptians, against four other civs. Archipelago, huge map, sedentary barbarians, climate/age/etc. all the default settings.

Do I stink at this game? Or am I among the ranks of the merely average? And which civs do you all like and why?

To be honest I never pay attention to score.

My favourite civs are the Ottomans and the Koreans. (Obviously, I play the Conquests expansion, and if you don’t, go get it.) I love scientific, commercial, and industrious advantages; I’m not fussy about the rest, although I’m starting to learn to play with the Religious advantage.

We play different games though. I don’t like the idea of a huge map with just 5 civs. I’d prefer a smaller map or more civs.

I wish I could remember the score from this tactic, but I became disillusioned with Civ3 very rapidly and never played it to the extent that I played 1 and 2. I think I’ll reinstall Civ3 tonight and give it a whirl to see what score I can manage.
