Here in Broward County (think Fort Lauderdale, Florida) the county executive has just upped the ante on confronting the non-compliant via Executive Order 20-22 (pdf) which in turn builds on a growing list of other longer orders.

This latest comes a couple weeks after “masks mandatory” signs were required by law at all doors to all commercial / retail & government buildings.

It is now illegal for any business to serve a non-mask wearing customer. Waitstaff may not take their orders, nor may cashiers check out their purchases.

The business manager on duty and the business owner are personally civilly & criminally liable for any failure to comply with the order to not serve maskless customers. Businesses that are found not in compliance twice may be closed, first for a day and then for longer. There have already been many one-day closures.

Private parties in homes exceeding 10 persons are also prohibited, with the home owner personally civilly & criminally liable for any failure to enforce the rule. Whether the owner is present or not.

The County may be stretching their authority a bit here, but they’re issuing one heck of a lot of citations right now. The public is actively encouraged to report either maskholes or businesses flouting the rules by calling 311 or 911 depending on how severe the violations are.

Oh yeah, and a full-bore curfew from 11pm to 5am for anyone other than police / fire / EMS or people going to/from work or medical care. Late night parties are right out.
