So what? What prevents you from telling her “You are my sister. I love you. But you are a moron. I’m not going to talk to you anymore if you continue with this moronic thinking”?
You forgot “and see you at Thanksgiving!”
Oh, no! Are we going to have to put up statues?
And then have another near war about tearing them down?
So does walking in the middle of the street qualify for being a Covidiot? Every day I go for a walk, and at least half of the people are walking in the street. Most of them are walking with the traffic so their backs are to the cars. There are plenty of sidewalks, and the grass in most areas if level so you can pass in the grass if need be.
Yesterday I was coming around a corner and a woman was pushing her stroller in the middle of the road and refused to move. I was on a one lane road so I couldn’t go around her.
The day before that I was walking, the road to my right, and a woman who was running towards me stepped in to the road and went right to the middle. She didn’t look and was within a foot or so of getting hit. She just continued running down the middle of the road. She could have gone a few feet to her right and gone in to the UNUSED parking lot, but no, she had to run in the road and almost get hit.
I get it, people want to keep away from others, but there’s plenty of room to keep off the roads. I walk in the grass when people come near if I can, but I’m not walking in the road to get hit.
At least your covidiots are erring on the side of caution, not reckless disregard. Would that we had more of those out in public to be seen.
One of the social problems w COVID response is that in uncertain situations people look to those around them for cues on how to behave. One’s likelihood of wearing a mask has a strong correlation to what you see others around you doing.
Unfortunately, the most cautious folks are invisible because they’re at home. So the behavior being modeled in public excludes a hefty fraction of the folks doing it safely. Which leaves what is on display skewed a bunch towards the incautious end of the total response spectrum. And thereby reinforces incautious behavior more than it should.
So they weren’t… uh, I hate to ask… once bitten twice shy?
Joke I saw on FB this morning that I think belongs here:
What do you call a group of covidiots?
A covfefe
Covidiots of the Week? A meeting of the Utah County, Utah commissioners was supposed to discuss the possibility of requiring masks in schools. One commissioner, Bill Lee, organized an anti-mask rally held before the meeting. Rally attendees then attended the commissioners meeting, where they refused to wear masks and deliberately flouted social distancing rules. To his credit, the Commission chair noted the attendees were violating state and local public health mandates and pushed the meeting to a later date.
Utah County, which has a population of about 636,000, has had about 5800 COVID cases, one of the highest infection rates in the US.
Denna Robertson, one of the rally organizers, said she’s “absolutely” comfortable sending children back to school without masks. She said wearing masks is not a public health issue because she believes COVID-19 was manufactured in a lab.
“Coronavirus is man-made. It’s a weaponized virus,” Robertson said.
And whom does she think created the virus? Why, Anthony Fauci and Bill Gates, of course.
She also said she wasn’t worried about getting COVID because
“If I’m infected with COVID, it’s because I’ve not been taking care of my immune system. You know how your immune system gets strong? It’s by being in the dirt and getting exposed to bacteria and viruses,” Robertson said.
Some kids attending the meeting shouted, “Masks are stupid!” and “You can’t make me wear a mask!”
[Info from multiple sources, including this one.]
“Former game show host Chuck Woolery, who tweeted Sunday that “Everyone is lying” about COVID-19, including the media, Democrats and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said a day later that his son was diagnosed with the disease.”
He’s since deleted his Twitter account. But he’s still on FB and people are roasting him in the comments. Redirecting...
Well @mistymage that just goes to show you/us what so many have said so often about RW fantasy media and RW fantasy thinking.
Lots of folks can pretend reality is whatever they wish it is. For awhile. But then Mother Nature will make you its bitch. And you’ll learn.
The shame here is that so few are willing to learn from others and instead must burn themselves personally on the same hot stove that has burnt so many others already. Next!!
My wife and I always wear masks when grocery shopping. Buying produce sight unseen is a non-starter. Same with fresh bread.
Yesterday at the local grocer, I had someone PULL THEIR MASK DOWN OFF OF THEIR FACE so they could tell me how wonderful the bakery’s pies were. Not only that, the person was not satisfied with six foot distancing, and steadily approached me during their monologue. I turned and fled.
But you bought a pie, right?
It may be overkill here in Connecticut, but we haven’t gone into a grocery store since mid-March. We’ve pretty much got the hang of online ordering. It’s not perfect—we usually only get about 75-80% of the items we order on Peapod, but we haven’t starved yet.
The deliveries are contactless—they just put the items on our front porch. We’ve even gotten ice cream.
Fresh fruit, vegetables, and bread have generally been OK. We did get one bag of spoiled onions a while back, but they are pretty good about giving refunds when this happens.
I will add that it’s pretty easy to order. The app and website keep track of your previous orders by category, so you can just go through your past purchases and decide if you want to get something or not.
I fully expect before this is over I will be in a physical fight with a stranger in public over mask wearing and social distancing.
Wear a fucking mask. Keep your fucking distance.
Here in Broward County (think Fort Lauderdale, Florida) the county executive has just upped the ante on confronting the non-compliant via Executive Order 20-22 (pdf) which in turn builds on a growing list of other longer orders.
This latest comes a couple weeks after “masks mandatory” signs were required by law at all doors to all commercial / retail & government buildings.
It is now illegal for any business to serve a non-mask wearing customer. Waitstaff may not take their orders, nor may cashiers check out their purchases.
The business manager on duty and the business owner are personally civilly & criminally liable for any failure to comply with the order to not serve maskless customers. Businesses that are found not in compliance twice may be closed, first for a day and then for longer. There have already been many one-day closures.
Private parties in homes exceeding 10 persons are also prohibited, with the home owner personally civilly & criminally liable for any failure to enforce the rule. Whether the owner is present or not.
The County may be stretching their authority a bit here, but they’re issuing one heck of a lot of citations right now. The public is actively encouraged to report either maskholes or businesses flouting the rules by calling 311 or 911 depending on how severe the violations are.
Oh yeah, and a full-bore curfew from 11pm to 5am for anyone other than police / fire / EMS or people going to/from work or medical care. Late night parties are right out.
Looks like the “Freedom First!” morons done shot themselves in the foot blew both legs clean off.
Same as Robby’s experience… in general the produce has been fine. Maybe not exactly what we’d have chosen, but we haven’t got anything unusable yet.
Oddly meat is where it’s been kind of dicey, mostly because they seem to pick the stuff that’s going to expire the soonest. Which makes sense from a grocery store standpoint, in that they keep their stock moving, but from a consumer perspective, it means we can’t often buy it and leave it in the fridge for 4+ days until we figure out what we’re doing with it.
That said, we haven’t got anything that was actually spoiled, but we’ve had a few spoil before we could get to them, because they had like 2 days on their expiration date when we got them.
Saturday was my day to make a beer run. The beer distributor had a huge poster board, “WEAR A MASK” sign on the door along with six foot markers on the floor.
Everyone was masked and moving cautiously except for one furious Karen who was with a masked man but who chose to not mask. Everyone avoided going anywhere near her, yet she stood with her fists on her hips and glaring at everyone. She was royally pissed off, but I liked how everyone just ignored her, refusing to play her game.
There is t-shirt shop here in town that will make individual custom t-shirts for you. I’ve been seriously considering getting a couple made up that say “Fuck your feelings, snowflake. Wear a mask!” and wearing one every time I go to the store, because there are always a couple Covidiots who still don’t think they should have to wear one. But yeah, if I did that I’d probably wind up getting in a fight.
