Instead get at least 1 and preferably 3 large parrots. the kind that refuse to be trained to not squawk all day and night. Keep the cage in his room, tell him they’re his “get-well birds”, and they’re urging him to recover.
After a couple days he’ll be so motivated to strangle the darn things he just might get up the gumption to get out of bed. It’s non-traditional medicine, but it just might work.
And be sure to name the cat that spends the most time with him ‘Fauci’. One of the puppies should be christened ‘Pfizer’, another ‘Moderna’. Tag one of the new Bengal kittens with ‘J & J’ (that one could be a Norwegian Forest cat if you prefer).
Dang, you guys are good! As this is the middle of week 3, I better get shopping!!!
He says he doesn’t have a fever now (he knows these things, alright?), but he’s cold all the time. The man usually wants to live in a meat locker, so this is very notable.
They sell these newfangled gizmos called “thermometers” that can take all the guesswork and RW alt-facts out of the fever question. You should check into it.
Indeed, and I just happen to have several kinds. Getting him to use one, though. He says its not worth doing because 98.6 F is just an average, and we don’t know his baseline so wouldn’t be able to properly tell if he had a fever or not.
I’m probably going to need to go to the dispensary tomorrow, I’ve been smoking a whole lot more weed lately. Outside, of course.
IME, medical professionals only care about 100° and up, not how high above one’s baseline.
My baseline is around 97.1° and I frequently have temperatures up to 99.5° around bedtime but nobody in the doctors’ offices I’ve ever been in cares about that.
I do understand this, but thank you. The man is firmly in denial and won’t let himself be influenced by facts.
The odd thing about the brain-washing is that he really is fairly normal except for this. Its almost like he had a stroke and lost function in part of his brain.
Get one of these to take his temperature from a bit of a distance. Then all you have to do is wait for him to fall asleep, which he does all the time anyway, and take his temperature.
Also, I’ve read a few places that QAnon and them are essentially using game theory to do the brainwashing. They do it by giving a few “clues” so that people get the thrill of “solving a puzzle” by themselves. I’m wondering if it’s possible to reverse what they did by giving him a new set of clues to put together that will start leading him away. (Sadly, I don’t think I’d be able to come up with this myself. It takes skills and experience I don’t have.)
I don’t feel like I have the “right” to do something like that. He’s an adult and he is allowed to make his own choices. While I have been beating him up pretty hard here, I still love and respect him and just couldn’t do such a thing.
I think your mention of using game theory to do the brainwashing is something that would work well with him. He’s always like solving puzzles and following clues. He has a souped up computer he uses for gaming. If you find a game to anti-program him, please let me know.
You have the right to have accurate information for your decision making. What he does with that information is up to him. Assuming you even elect to share it with him.
I spent quite a bit of time thinking about how to explain how wrong this just sounds and my words didn’t seem to come, so let me just say that I would be totally outraged if I learned that he had waited for me to go to sleep to take my temp if I had already told him not to. I don’t care how well intentioned or benign the actions, its just wrong to do something like that to an adult human as long as they are in sound mind and stuff.
I’m pretty sure that made no sense at all, but sometimes feelings don’t make much sense.
I like to put fresh flowers on our kitchen island. I think it makes the kitchen look pretty. Hubs doesn’t like flowers on the island because he thinks they get in the way.
For the first time in almost 3 weeks, hubs noticed the flowers and complained about them so it looks like he is feeling a little better. Of course he took a long nap afterwards but just the effort of eating dinner wears him out so much that he takes a long nap before getting the energy up to go to bed.
If I ever had any doubts about getting a booster before, they are gone now.
Glad he’s feeling a bit better and you’re getting a glimpse of light at the end of the tunnel. Keep putting those flowers out! You deserve ‘em. Of course the new kitty will pull them over but you don’t have to worry about that right at the moment. New kitten and flowers!-what a nice problem to have!.
He’s at day 20 of showing symptoms now, I suspect the maskless wonder caught it on or about May 1st.
Yesterday he tried convincing me that he was all better and could go out and do things, so we went out. Just the effort of riding in the car to go to the health department for a test wore him out so badly that he fell asleep instead of arguing about his positive test.
I secretly called him a Covidiot in my mind before he got COVID, now I feel free to say the word to his face. This was so very avoidable.
You’re right not to do it against his wishes. It’s called trust, and though taking a temperature sounds like a small thing, breaches of trust don’t really come in sizes – you forever have to wonder ‘if she’d take my temperature, what else would she do’ and the erosion of trust is underway. And what difference would it make – he’s not going to believe it or act on it, so better to just go play with the kitten. That cat may be the best handling of a covidiot I’ve seen – congrats!
You should get a pulse-oximiter and make him start using it today. One of the most critical issues is low oxygen. For some odd reason, patients with COVID don’t realize when their oxygen levels drop critically low. A pulse-oximiter is a little device you hook to your finger to read your oxygen levels. You’ve probably had it done at doctor’s offices. You can buy one yourself for about $30 at most drugstores. Did they check his oxygen when he went for a test? Don’t worry about taking his temp as you can approximate that just by touch. Oxygen level is something you should be monitoring since this is going on so long and is going to be something which he needs to go to the hospital if it dips too low.
