Wait a minute, these threads weren’t merged a minute ago. Merging them without warning or explantion makes my post above look incongruous.
Well, you could always say it should be read interpretationally - that you were trying to capture a certain Palinesque voice.
Why is it ridiculous? It’s certainly several cuts above “Hope” (Rhode Island) or “Friendship” (Texas).
Hey now, no need to make it personal!
(RIer who rather likes “Hope”) ![]()
Or Indiana’s from a few years ago: “Wander”.
Those are lame, but they are not nonsense. I don’t mean to pick on Alaska alone, most mottos are cliche and uninteresting. (“Industry?” “Forward?” “Agriculture and commerce?”) Ad astra per aspera and dum spiro spero might be the only really good ones, and “Live free or die” is at least controversial, if over-the-top.
My apologies if there was any confusion. I merged the threads because they’re about the exact same performance, and I’d rather combine threads than lock one.
I submit the motto for Iowa from a few years back:
“A State of Minds”
Nebraska’s is still “The Good Life”.
But religious conservatives do not believe in standing bass. That old evolution fish-with-legs bit! ![]()
Just so people don’t think I’m completely dense, when I posted the above quote it was in a thread with only PlainJane’s link.
I had some trouble with the provided links on this abysmally slow Internet connection I’m using, but found the YouTube version worked fine.
