At least the thread wasn’t about Xoloitzcuintlis. Most people can’t even pronounce 'em, let alone spell them.
ArCtic! Not “Artic”
NucLear! Not “nucular”.
Smorgasbord! Not “smorgasborg”.
FebRuary! Not “Febuary”.
Those are just the first out of the gate. There will be more.
growls
My old neighbors have a “chi-wow-wow” and my great uncle has a “wisenhimer.”
Heh. Old people are funny.
Hence, I do not own one! I couldn’t even tell you if you spelled it correctly…
“Your” and “you’re” are NOT “the same thing” and therefore interchangeable.
It does allow one to refer to a certain class of people as “athier-than-thou”, of course.
Whereas I am just plain athy.
Don’t blame you. Not exactly the prettiest breed in the world.
See, I come from the opposite perspective. Not only should you not be able to spell your dog’s breed, you shouldn’t even be able to identify it. Mutts are the only real dogs.
Damn. Between that godforsaken beast and the poor Indian girl with the eight limbs, this has been a nightmare-inducing day on the SDMB.
Resistance is futile.
“Than” is a comparitive word.
“Then” concerns time.
Stop fucking this up, or I shall start killing puppies.
Definatly.
If they are Xoloitzcuintli puppies, than go right ahead.
Sight, Site and Cite all SOUND alike, they do not mean the same thing and should not be used interchangeably.
The last abuse I saw of these was in print–the word the author meant was site, but she actually used sight.
You’re joking, right? Just say sike and I’ll know you’re joking.
This reminds me of voila/walla.
Cite?
Sorry, just couldn’t help myself.
Hehe…there was a talent show at my church once when I was growing up, and this (probably 15 year old) girl did a magic act: you know, wand full of scarves, rabbit in hat, card tricks. At any rate, she said viola every time she did something “magical,” which was probably fifteen times in her ten-minute act. Yes, viola. Just like the instrument. To this day, I don’t know if she realizes why the audience laughed so hard every time she said it. She probably still thinks it was out of delight at her prestidigitation.
