Shooting at Indiana middle school

Its still being sorted out, but apparently someone started shooting at Noblesville West Middle School in (?city/town) Indiana. So far, reports say that one adult and one student are in critical condition (IIRC)… More as it is known, of course…
What is not surprising to me is that yesterday, amidst the news out of D.C., I said to myself that all we need now is another school shooting. And damn if it happened - so fucking predictable nowadays. :(:frowning: Hopefully, shooter’s name is not mentioned, but that’d be something for another thread.

If this is already mentioned, please report this for closing and/or moving to said thread.

Suspect is in custody.

Talking-heads are reporting that the injured student is a 13-yr old female, and that the adult injured is a teacher who was shot while trying to intervene. They are saying they need an official confirmation of details, but said more than one unofficial report indicates it is fairly accurate. “Still waiting for SWAT to finish their sweep of the building”, etc…

It is good to know that there was an adult who would ‘take a bullet’ for the student(s), but it is so disconcerting to think that a teacher/educator would even have to seriously worry about it. I’d go far out of my path to buy person a beer if I had a chance!

Getting to the point where we could just have an “Ongoing School Shooting Thread”.

Am I imagining it or are a lot more shooters being arrested recently rather than shooting themselves last? Different police tactics or just random chance?

wow that’s only 30 minutes (kokomo in) from where most of my familys located ……

The Santa Fe shooting had different tactics, sort of. The police were there quickly and they went in and confronted the shooter. At least 2 of them were shot, I believe. The shooter himself was also different, though. He wanted survivors to tell his story. He may have been out of targets where he was, and so they were able to talk him into surrendering. (He may have also been out of ammo. He had a smaller weapon stash with him.)

The Parkland shooter had a different type of shooter. He walked off, so he had an escape plan. He intended to live.

There was one in the middle, wasn’t there (ugh), where there were two perpetrators? I don’t know as much about that one.

I find this kind of comment curious.

If you mapped the past decade’s school shootings, I’ll bet there are few places more than 30 min from all of them. Noblesville is just outside of Indy, so there are a couple million people who are even closer.

Saw in the paper the other day, that a disproportionate number of these shooting take place in small cities, rather than small towns or big cities.

Also note that IN is a very red state other than its very NW corner. And when I lived there, there was STRONG support for NRA, and limited support for education funding. Must need more guns, and more poorly funded schools.
