It happened at an Israeli ticket counter. Not much news on the internet, but local LA news stations have live coverage. 2 people dead. The police shot the first suspect and are now looking for a second suspect. The entire upper level and loop around terminal 1 is shut down. The Tom Bradley terminal is also shut down.
Didn’t hear anything about a second suspect.
Yea, I heard that at first and now they’ve stopped saying that. I really don’t know. Unfortunatly my family from Germany is flying in at 6:30. I have no idea what flgith or anything.
The shooter was using some sort of automatic weapon, and was taken down by El Al security.
Now they ARE saying there’s a second suspect they’re looking for. They have a description of him, and apparently even know who he is, but haven’t released a name yet.
Still nothing on FOX News live, CNN, or MSNBC about a second shooter.
MSNBC is saying 4 shot, 2 killed, and “some reports that there was more than one gunman” which is why they’ve evacuated LAX.
And now a small plane has crashed into a crowd in San Dimas outside the Raging Waters theme park, 6 people in critical condition. (This just broke on MSNBC.)
Probably unrelated of course. But still fucked up.
Not to mention in Germany and in the Central African Republic. Isn´t that an awful lot for one week?!
My sister I haven’t seen in 8 years is flying up from LA today. I can only* hope* she had already left by the time all this shit came down. Cripes, she’ll probably not want to leave here to go home.
For what it’s worth, the Jerusalem Post is now reporting that only the gunman was killed. Haven’t heard this anywhere else, though.
3 dead (including gunman), 3 wounded. News conference from FBI, LAPD, etc “shortly”.
FOX LA news is still doing live coverage.
According to the L.A. NBC affiliate, the governor’s office is reporting 3 fatalities (a victim, the shooter… and someone else?).
In re to the plane crash, there is one fatality confirmed.
That’s it. I’m staying home for the rest of the day, that’s for sure.
bernse: The Tom Bradley (international) terminal is closed. Departing flights will be delayed. Arriving flights will continue to land at LAX and the passengers will be transported to a different terminal. All other terminals are open. I don’t know if Air Canada or other flights going to Canada use the other terminals, but if they do then they should depart more-or-less on time.
JavaMaven1: I was going to drive to the South Bay this afternoon. Sounds like I’ll be better off on the bike.
And now the mayor is trying to further his agenda. I just love a politician who knows when to make use of a situation.
From all that I’ve now seen, it has ‘coincidence’ written all over it. A lone gunman and a mechanical accident seem to be the respectable causes. But we’ll have to wait and see.
Nothing about a second gunman on any national news reports. The guys at the news conference were talking like they’re pretty sure that it was an isolated incident. I heard a report that the gunman was shouting something about losing his job, which suggests that maybe he was an ex-El Al employee.
Holy Moly.
My girlfriend is flying back to LAX tomorrow from SF - so via a different terminal. And I’ve used that Tom Bradley terminal myself a few times as well. Lots of security checks and national guard around the El Al area. Weird, that someone with an automatic weapon could even get that far.
Apparently the suspect was armed only with a pistol and a knife. The casualties are as follow: Suspect killed one woman in '20s, one man in '40s, stabbed a man in the back, pistol whipped another man, and shot and wounded another woman.
