Shooting at mosque in Quebec City

The phrase is well-known enough that the gunman could have been using it mockingly, as well. Or the witness who reported that could have been lying or mistaken. All are possibilities.

Exactly. In the chaos of a situation like that, people can innocently and sincerely report all kinds of incorrect things.

Just one suspect now. Not identified which one, if either of the two originally identified.

As usual Twitter has the latest information on a breaking story like this.

Lot of journalists tweet information before its picked up by the media.

The upcoming news conference may reveal more about what happened and what charges will be filed.

Bissonnette was an internet troll: anti-Muslim, anti-women, and a populist.

Populist bigots, particularly Trump and his supporters, and many members of the Parti Quebecois and the Front National, are at the root of this sort of stochastic terrorist attack. It would strain credulity to believe that this terrorist murderer had not been enervated by the attack by Trump and his gang against Muslims this weekend.

Populist politicians are part of stochastic terrorism because it is their tiny hands that pull the maladjusteds’ puppet strings. They have blood on their tiny hands for the slaughter of six Muslims at prayer.

We need a wall between us and Quebec! One bad skittle makes the whole bowl suspect!

I look forward to hearing how wrong you were, now that it isincreasingly likelythat the terrorist killings were the work of an Anti-immigrant white nationalist shit-head.

But let’s not go racing to conclude anything quite yet, Mkay?

I’ve been properly corrected. I should not have been using the term populist. I believe nationalist would be a more appropriate term. By historical analogy, the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei was a populist party, but its defining characteristic was nationalism.

You know I’m a descriptivist zealot, out there burning style guides on bonfires and all, but I think you mean “energized” here. “Enervate” traditionally means “sapped of energy,” and using it as its opposite can create genuine confusion.

Up here in Kanukistan, we’ve had some difficult times with the marriage between Quebéc and the ROC, including terrorist attacks, kidnappings and murders, martial law with troop movements and tanks in the streets, and an exodus of anglophones (including my family any many of our friends’ families). The whole chiboust.

But somehow we’ve managed to keep it together, not out of compulsion, but out of preference based on a lot of listening and compromising. I think that we are better for it, particularly because the differences in cultures and opinions help us avoid going off the rails due to unconstrained nationalism, and help us learn from each other’s success and setbacks.

I doubt if Trump will erect a wall or fence between the USA and Québec, for pur laine Québécois are neither brown nor Muslim. If Trump does do something silly along the border, then vive la bibliothèque et salle d’opéra Haskell libre!

I’m pretty sure that you realize I was being sarcastic, right?

Thanks for the correction. Energize, not enervate. My apologies.

Nah. I hate folks who post that kind of penny-ante correction, can’t believe I did it myself. Nerves, man. The apology is mine.

This might make sense if Trump wasnt from a place that is far more diverse and far less politically violent than Quebec; NYC.

I’m sure there are some fine people in Victoria, Texas. However, the Gofundme page is receiving donations from all over the country. They have now raised over $900,000.

This is what I’ve heard. One of the men praying said that he yelled out to God because he thought he was going to die. I’ve been following the story since last night when it happened, I only slept 2 hours.
Too many people jump to conclusions when an event like this one happens.

By the way, according to his FB page, the killer, Bissonnette, liked Donald Trump, Marine LePen, liked to use the word “feminazi” and such, but I know more virulent people than that. Just an ordinary right-wing xenophobe, apparently. We should no more about his motives soon. The fact that he called to give himself up gives me the impression that he wants to tell his story.

What alternate universe do you hail from? It’s a thrill to read the opinion of someone from another space/time.

It appears you were salivating over a false prediction.

He also, apparently, liked to troll various message boards with his right-wing anti-immigrant hate messages. I think this should be a warning sign.

We are still waiting patiently for his retraction and apology. No doubt he is pondering over the details and word-smithing at the moment.
