Fox is saying at least 32 dead and 28 wounded. 60 casualties. It’s beyond comprehension as to how someone…
CNN is still sticking by 22, lets hope that when everything is sorted out it’s not the higher numbers.
ETA: Fox is reporting 32, MSNBC is back with 22, ABC claims 29 dead…
I suspect there’s something amiss with the numbers that Fox and the WaPo are reporting. It sounds like it was from one unnamed federal source.
If you want to have your faith in humanity further diminished, take a look at the comments that nyctea scandiaca linked to.
It isn’t an accomplishment at all and I’m not trying to cast doubt on the stories. For me, it seems more horrific using hand guns, because it seems to imply he aimed for most of them. Instead of a machine gun, where he could blindly spray bullets, a handgun would require he aim for most of his shots. That’s impossible to imagine, being in that mindset.
In the hall in Randolph, I talked briefly with another student who knew one of the people who jumped out a window to escape. He said that the guy had broken his leg and that other than that he was fine.
Thank you to everyone who has responded to my previous post and wished my friends well. I don’t think that I know anyone who would have been on the fourth floor of AJ this morning and Norris (the academic building where the shooting happened) is mainly used my the Engineering Science and Mechanics department. I can’t think of any of my friends who were likely to have had a class there this morning. The VT email server is offline for now so I haven’t had a chance to check to see if everyone’s alright yet. I pray they are all okay. At the very least, I know that my roommate (and best friend) is alright.
I’m glad you’re okay, Lord Il Palazzo. I hope your friends are, too.
Unfortunately there are plenty of video games which will give you all the practice you want to walk up and shoot people.
Funny, I’ve been on SSRIs for over two years now, and I’ve not had the urge to do this.
Oh, and VT.edu is still saying that 22 have been confirmed dead.
No shit. What is wrong with people?
please.
Moving a mouse and aiming a gun, blasting pixels on a screen and shooting humans are completely different.
I play violent video games all the time. My handgun aim is decent at best. I don’t have the urge to shoot up a campus. don’t try to put the blame on something inhuman like this with a dominant form of the entertainment industry.
My alma mater…and it started in my old dorm!
Goddam, what is it about this time in April that turns people into nuts? The Oklahoma City bombing was April 19th, 1995. Columbine was April 20th, 1999. Now this.
I’ve heard it traced to commemorating either Waco (April 19th, 1993) or to Hitler’s Birthday (April 20th). Someone wanted to beat the rush, I guess…
I don’t know, from now on I’m just going to spend April in bed.
Then consider yourself lucky , and for Og’s sakes, don’t ever just stop taking them cold turkey.
Look at the history of these kinds of shootings over the last 20 or more years. Just about every single one of them have SSRI’s in common. Eric Harris (Columbine) was on Luvox.
Didn’t intend to make this thread about this, and this is the last time I’ll speak of it, but you need only look at the past, and see if it applies to this.
From the WaPo comments section:
Wow. Amazing. Two hours?
I am beyond distraught about the student’s account upthread. Some poor kid was just doing his/her job, walks into a room, sees a resident shot, and gets shot. And the rest of the victims who were just in class.
They are already lobbing the race bait on MSNBC, noting that several college shooters have been Asian. Nobody seemed to bring this up when young White males were shooting their classmates in Columbine, Jonesboro, or in Oregon.
AP is now reporting 31 dead.
Bush will be speaking at 4:15 pm. VaTech will have a presser at 4:30.
doesn’t technically mean the SSRIs are responsible. It could easily be a part of the original reason for prescribing the medication that’s not controlled adequately by it.

The BLAME lies solely with the shooter. The response it about practice.
Asian parents often have incredibly high expectations for their children, my first reaction is that cracking under the pressure of his curriculum might have been a major contributing cause.
Yes the commenters on the Post site have been increasingly more shocking lately.
