::sticks head in the door::

Hi, everyone! How’s it goi…OWW! I heard someone yell, “Get him!” and then I got hit in the head with an Elvis as Santa Claus collectible plate (good Frisbee form, though)! I’m tellin’ my Dad!

::runs for his very life::

Who let the dog out?

I did that. Sorry Twickster

Honey, you had the grace to accept responsibility for using that word and apologize for it. I hope the poster who first used that word will follow your example.

I appreciate the mod reminder. However to clarify, the word was used by two members, longtime posters here. The uses were not by any of the new group of which I am one.

The always sweet and seemingly genuine Lynne “Dim Bulb” Murphy is on HSN now, with Korres skin care. I haven’t happened to catch her in quite a while. Think I’ll give her a listen for a bit to see if she’ll let loose with one of her “gems”. Hopefully their products contain at least one “exotic” ingredient to inspire (?) her.

I assume you’re talking about me? I don’t know why you didn’t use my name, and I’m not sure what you think I have to apologize for. Use of the word “cunt” is not forbidden at the SDMB, though as twickster said, many of us refrain from using it gratuitously because certain posters don’t like it.

Since you’re very new and don’t seem to have read either the rules or the forum descriptions: Complaints about other posters go in a different forum, and if you wish to petition for a rule change, there’s a forum where that is allowed as well.

Apologies if the above came off as junior modding - which actually IS against the rules. Just trying to be helpful.

Shoot, it’s not a jewelry show so she won’t say “Brillo”-ette. That one makes me jump up and down and do my best Yosemite Sam imitation.

What was it they used to call her on TWoP? Lyd Burphy? That always slayed me. She definitely needs her nasal passages widened.

Hope your panties have straightened out now. Wow! Overreaction City.

Guess
I was just being my nice self.
Nastiness isn’t required in the rules. See I have read rules and other guidelines. Read it all. Just choose to display my character, which is not a requirement either.

Oh, she’s on with Adrienne now, who is doing her jewelry instead of makeup. Give it a whirl! What* is *the “Brillo”-ette thing, btw? Please share.

Yes, something like that with the “Lyd Burphy”, can’t remember exactly. Spot on, it was, though.

Like “Long Jaw” Mally, which I think I saw over there, as well. ell oh ell. Just came to mind since you mentioned good nics. And she happens to be on Q right now. Ugh. I tend to call her Heehaw Mally (as in braying donkey, not hillbilly), but Long Jaw is terrifically spot on in more ways than one.

Lots of overreaction going here, including those who felt the need to report posts that contained the word “cunt.” When do they start the segment for selling Big Boy and Big Girl Pants?

Regarding Midz Burphy and her occasional slaughter of the English language…

If you are familiar with the way they occasionally cut gemstones into a tear-dropped shape, then give them a lot of diamond-shaped facets to catch light, attach the cap to the pointed end of the teardrop and dangle them in groups from a necklace or bracelet, that’s called a brlolette cut gem. These were very popular in Victorian times and are quite often see in jet as well as in translucent gemstones. And it’s pronounced bree-a-let.

Every time Lyd presents a gem cut in this shape, she calls it a Brillo-ette, as though it were named after the wire pot scraper pads. It’s just a silly little personal trigger for me whenever she does it. I can’t believe someone who has presented jewelry for 20 years has never been corrected about that.

Reminds of the day they were hitting us over the head with the tarp (not just a tarp, a tarp would never do what this does!!!) that keeps snow off your windshield. They have a big SUV and she apes like wittle old her could never reach the middle of the windshield with her puny brush/scraper. Yeah, and it’s not like they make brush/scrapers that telescope or anything! :smack: Not to mention, yeah, it’s all nice under that 1/2 inch of real snow they use – until you have to drive home in the slop and ruin your windshield on the way. I hope they know enough to remove the WonderTarp before driving.

Welcome to the boards, all new posters!

We don’t bite. Much.

I feel like this quote by Stephen Fry is appropriate.

HI and welcome to the new posters.

Could you explain what OAP means? In the UK this would be Old Aged Pensioner, an outdated way to refer to those that Americans call “seniors”. Quite a lot of your acronyms and jargon is confusing - I was actually googling “Giggly” jackets before one of you let slip it was actually GILI  Maybe you could start a companion glossary thread to make it easier to understand because what I can get is pretty funny.

It IS appropriate and I agree with it, but that’s easy for an Englishman to say. They aren’t as afflicted with the despotism of the politically correct that rules so much of American social interraction.

I have sat through countless ‘worthwhile’ seminars on poltical correctness and have come away with one main lesson. Offense is not in the intent of the speaker or actor, but in the perception of the listener or acted upon.

I’m not saying I agree with this. I often don’t. Putting control of a situation into the hands of those vigorously searching for an offense behind every word, tone, inflection or gesture can be risky and end very badly. However, the courts support it as this time and thus they hold the cards.

OAP is On-air Presenter or On-air Personality. it refers to the venders selling for the company, not the hosts employed by QVC.

Thanks for the welcomes, both.

Springtime for Spacers: I don’t want to start another SC related thread here, lest the established residents think we really are trying to take over.

But if you want to post a list, I/we will be happy to define them for you. Or, feel free to just ask as you see them, one of us will gladly answer. Happy to help our new friends in here get up to speed with our silliness. And glad you are enjoying the thread so far.

ETA: Honey has already explained OAP a couple posts above this, FYI.

^^
Errr…list or post any questions in here, as opposed to creating another thread, I meant, in case I wasn’t clear. The short edit window is going to be my undoing, as of course I never notice my errors and omissions until well after I hit send. :smack:
