Shopping channel snark

Brilliant Find - payment installments (JTV)

(I don’t know why JTV chose to call their plan Brilliant Find. Maybe it’s a reference to the traditional “brilliant cut” faceting for a round gemstone. I laugh at it whenever I don’t think their daily value is such a “brilliant,” as in, “exceptionally clever,” item. Sometimes their daily value item is quite ordinary.)

Well, I was thinking Leah was looking pretty today, even though her bralt has made a return appearance. Then full shot reveals she’s also wearing Witch Lezah booties again. Why, Leah? Why?

ETA: Witch Lezah

To all the regulars who suggested we newbies venture forth and check out the other forums, I have done so and been posting up a veritable storm. I haven’t braved your Pit yet, but the other places seem quite reasonable.

I just decided that I’ll do a little write up on some of the hosts/vendors, to add to the sticky thread in order to help those new to “our specialized brand of weirdness”. Truth is, a lot of the “funny” is not always readily apparent during short viewings. So I started, and realized I know waaaaayyy too much about these TV strangers. LOL I may have to get cable again so I can have more diverse “background noise” TV options! :dubious:

Have fun out there in the big, wide, board! Don’t forget to write home once in a while, ya hear?

What about the black woman who talks about “real women” while hawking her pants? I’m as fat as they come and I still hate that term – any woman is “real”.

OMG, me too! That pisses me off so much. I have no idea why some fat women feel the need to insult thin women in order to make themselves feel better. And I have no idea why people don’t call them on it. I have friends that swim in a size 0. Are they any less real than I am? We’re all real women. Some of us just take up a little more space than others.

Renee Greenstein, who has a clothing line or two on the Q. To my credit (and relief), I had to look it up, because I could just barely recall her first name. Whew!

ITA. And in Q land (and others, TBH) there is a laundry list of qualities they espouse as what qualifies one as a woman…like being “curvy” (only), busy momming, taking care of everyone but yourself, et cetera, et cetera. You might want to keep your remote handy if you watch.

However, Renee herself happens to be quite slender, and is a former clothes fitting model. Which she will be guaranteed to tell you repeatedly during every presentation. But her schtick is that you need her clothes no matter what your size, as even the thinnest women have SOMETHING they need to hide or whatever.

I hate that term too. That’s Renee Greenstein. “No more wiggle, no more jiggle” Attitudes by Renee.

We weren’t trying to list every OAP, just the ones most snarked about, or with nicknames.

Just for grins and giggles (or perhaps just for sneers and tears), I took a look at the Program Guide for Q for the 1st 4 days in January 2015. It’s been a while since the management change, long enough to do something different if they wished. I was hoping, against all hope, that maybe there’d be a surprise and they’d start out January with something new and different. Who was I kidding? of course they did-dunt.

Jan 1st is the expected health and fitness day, Jan 2’s TSV is shapewear, Jan 3’s is…you guessed it Vionic Orthoheel, and Jan 4’s is…tell me you didn’t see this coming Vitamix. It is, after all, MORE than a blender.

As the valley girls used to say…gag me with a spoon. Preferrably a nice one, say a Wallace Sterling piece.

I hate the way they use the word “curvy” instead of fat or larger. I am an overweight, larger, fat-in-places person. Don’t pander to me by saying “curvy.” And of course, I’m not curvy enough in the places “real women” are curvy, (hips and thighs, according to QVC). As someone posted elsewhere, I am an apple in a pear world. :(. I wish they would acknowledge and offer help to the rest of us!

Quoting myself so I can correct the dumb mistake I made in my previous post!

Should be:

Brilliant Find: JTV’s name for their daily special value. I don’t know how we’d abbreviate it. BF?

Stretch Pay: JTV’s installment payment plan.

I’ve been wandering around a little too. Mostly lurking, but I’ve made a few posts.

This was posted today in a 2 1/2 year old zombie thread in the MPSIMS forum:

Anyone know this person? Anyway, as soon as she said “Being rude and making fun of people while they are doing their jobs is no way to go about things”, I thought of you guys, er, gals. Link.

Thanks for thinking of us.

But hmmm…actually, the Liquidation Channel gets almost none of our attention. I don’t even watch it, myself. We mostly blast QVC because a) they provide the most fodder and b) They are supposed to be THE shopping channel, yet they are seemingly the least professional outfit of the bunch in many ways. I wonder if the LC is referring to negative feedback on social media? I don’t know how much they push that because I don’t watch, sooo…

I posted this same response in the aboe linked thread

It was actually the jewelry seller, Victoria Wieck/HSN who said it (quote below). We (the snarkers)thought it was disgusting, and called her on it. We are so sorry if all of those people who are sick and dying are effecting your jewelry sales.

Victoria Wieck: “You can wear this ring to Aspen, the Swiss Alps, or Paris”. and: “I don’t want to use the words rare or exotic when I talk about tanzanite, but you should get it now, what with that ebola stuff happening over there”

Unbelievable.

We rarely ever mention the Liquidation Channel, unless it’s to bring someone’s attention to a great deal. I think someone from the channel was doing a bit of googling and came upon that zombie thread, and thinking it was current, responded to it.

Ugh.

Aaah, yes. jimbuff314, I didn’t click your link to your post about Tanzanite before I posted my previous reply, apologies. I was just replying to the statement by the Liquidation Channel that you posted.

Sooo…what Honey said below, wrt the Tanzanite “problem”. I might add that at least I have no idea if Ebola is actually affecting Tanzanite sourcing or production, or if VW was just saying it to push sales. Either way, were thoroughly disgusted by her saying it that way.

Don’t forget the high kicks and the squats too.

I can’t guess either what prompted that outpouring of defensiveness from the LC Vice Prez.

I’ve watched Liquidation Channel a few times, but I never ordered anything because I don’t like their return policy, or to be more precise, their No Returns policy. From their website: “All sales are final unless item is received damaged, defective or item is over $200 dollars.” Most jewelry items I buy from JTV, HSN, QVC and ShopHQ are under $200, and I can return them with no problems if I want to.

“Damaged or defective” to restrict returns is way too strict. Sometimes you order a jewelry item and you just don’t like it when you receive it because it doesn’t look as good as it did on TV. Or maybe you bought it for a gift and the recipient didn’t like it. If you want to be a successful retailer, whether online, on TV or in a brick-and-mortar store, you have to have a reasonable returns policy. The “tough luck if it cost under $200” policy isn’t reasonable and isn’t competitive.

LC has some very bad reviews on several consumer websites I looked at tonight, such as Yelp and mythreecents dot com. People complained not only about the no-returns for -$200 policy, but about items ordered and never received, or items over $200 returned and refunds not received. People complained about low quality jewelry. There were also complaints about the customer service employees not acting very professional.

I have seen a few posts on QVC forums and elsewhere from people who bought Liquidation Channel jewelry and were pleased, but I think I will steer clear of LC. Since I don’t shop there and don’t plan to start, I am not going to snark on their hosts or presentations.

That actually happens a lot here, that someone posts to a zombie thread. I just think they were googling, and hit upon that thread. Then they posted to it thinking it was current, when it’s actually over 2 years old. It’s easy to get into reading and not notice the posting date.
