So I found out this afternoon that I’m going to be in Raleigh, NC next week on some work-related stuff. I figure this is a sign from the powers on high that I should try to get together with some of y’all who are down in that area. I don’t really know exactly where I’m going to be, or exactly how long I’m going to be down there–I know I’m leaving Monday morning, and I think I’m coming back on Thursday–but is there any possibility of organizing something at this late date? I should have internet access down there, although there’s a slight possibility I won’t.

Do you have any more details on your trip yet?
No. In fact, I’m not even 100% certain that I’m going–nobody’s quite sure who’s going to be funding my trip, and my BOSS (there’s my boss, my Boss, and my BOSS, in ascending order) doesn’t want to pay for it.
But it’s very likely at this point. The Monday-Thursday dates I am certain about, since I have to catch a flight to Ohio on Friday*. So Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings are probably pretty good.
*This is way more states than I’d like to be in during one week.
Actually, Monday might not be so hot. Probably need to talk with the other people I’m down there with. More details as I get 'em.
I’ll be in Raleigh on business next Wednesday, prolly finished around 9:30 PM. If something is happening around then, I could swing by, if it’s near the Vet school. Y’all, let me know

Ultrafilter, where in Raleigh would you be aiming for? Elelle will be at the Vet school which is very convenient to the beltline.
Somewhere very close to route 40–the hotels we’re looking at are all in Morrisville or Research Triangle Park. I hope that’s meaningful to you, cause I don’t really know exactly where that is.
I may be able to make it if it was Wednesday evening; I’ll be up in VA over the weekend and probably won’t be back until late Tuesday.
Morrisville and RTP are just a little west of Raleigh; from there it’s probably about 10 or 15 miles to the Vet school.
So we are looking at dinner, Wednesday evening, somewhere between the vet school (is that the one near the fairgrounds?) and Morrisville.
Gotchya.
I’ll start looking for a good dinner place within those parameters. Any special requests or limitations? I’m thinking nothing fancy, just a dinner place that won’t mind if we hang out a bit.
I was actually going to suggest Wednesday myself. aenea, your “nothing fancy” idea is great by me.

aenea, I suggest you identify a spot somewhere out NC-54/Int-40; I’ll try to come up with directions from where everybody is likely to be coming from. One small suggestion – try to get a place where the ambient noise level is somewhere below the average boiler factory. Many places have small side rooms in/adjacent to the dining area into which they’re willing to place parties of a dozen or so.
Well, I’m tempted, but I’m also in the middle of PhD exams, and if the second round is half as bad as the first, I may be busy hiding under something. Keep me posted, though.

CrazyCatLady and I are also tempted to drive down from Greensboro. I’ll see what the schedule looks like this week–keep me posted as well.

Well, my Wed. meeting is now rescheduled for Chapel Hill, instead of Raleigh, so I can’t make it then. Could make a thurs meeting, but at this late date, wouldn’t spect anyone to change on my account.Let me know what develops.
