Should I be honest or see what happens...

Okay question of the day…

Last Thursday my I-pod got the “sad i-pod face”… which is the most condesending thing ever… you just spend 350 on this device and when it dies threee months later yoiu get a SAD FACE. Gimme a middle finger or something for god sake… but anyway. So I went out with a friend, and threw a beer in my bag…just a traveler of sorts…and at some point the beer burst open and my sad ipod was now in a hammock of beer. Officially dunzo, in case it had any chance of survival beforehand.

So, I have the one year warrenty and had called them about sending it back…but now im afraid they are going to say they can’t replace it because thre is water damage and that isn’t covered under the warrenty.

So here’s my question…should i take the chance and just send it back w/o sayign anything OR should I tell them it was broken before and (give them the whole situation) and tell them about the “water” dmage that occured afterward??

Tell them the truth and hope for the best.

Send it to them and tell them that they must have spilled the beer in it because you have been dry for years.

Pbbbts!

Just send it to them and tell them the damn thing broke through no fault of your own. Just like 99.99% of the rest of the world would do.

The warranty doesn’t cover water damage? I sent my cell phone through the washing machine and Cingular replaced it, no problem…although now that I think about it, I had insurance on it, so that’s probably why, so just disregard this post 'cause I don’t think it applies to your situation at all.

Well, un-dis-regard it! I had a cellular phone purchased from Cingular, who I extremely dislike, because I had my AT&T still and they threatened to discontinue service on my phone in so many months because I wouldn’t buy a new one, or pay to get a new sim card, regardless, I purchased a LG phone, which I loved, and one day while trying to help my little nephew get his bubble-bath ready, I dropped it into the luke-warm bath water…

I called the store in Athens, Ohio, where I originally purchased it, and they told me to stop in sometime with my phone/simcard/box and papers and all that jazz. I did not have insurance or anything on this phone, but they were more than happy to replace it. I got a new phone for practically nothing, maybe $5 for price difference and tax, and walked out with it working that day…

Come to think of it, maybe un-un-dis-regard it, for the reason that I do know that my father sends a good bit of business their way…he has 7 cell phones for our immediate family, 3 for us kids, 2 for each parent, one for just his first job business, and one for his second…his construction company keeps 4 work phones for emergencies, and he has convinced the school he works for to buy all district issued phones through the store…

but any way…if you know anyone who works at an iPod store (do those exist?) or anything of that sort, a simple explanation will probably get you a long way, especially if you try hard to let them know if was an accident…most places can afford to send it to get fixed, replace it, or just give you a refund of sorts (some compensation at least)…

I know that I have never bought insurance for my cellular phone, and AT&T replaced two…one because it was dropped in a pool by accident and one because it got dropped into a pitcher of beer at a local B-Dubs and thereafter quit working…(ok so we told them it got beer spilled on it, not that I was just blitzed)…but again, it could be our relationship with the store…

I wish you best of luck with replacement of your iPod, and remember, if all else fails, convince them that they indeed did break it, that you don’t drink, and it must be their beer inside, as was mentioned above…

When I worked for T-Mobile, I was able to resurect some water damaged phones* and electronic stuff by submerging the entire thing (battery off) in a 90% solution of isopropyl alcohol, but I don’t know jack about Ipods so don’t take this as any sort of advice or anything.

*if the customer dropped the phone in water or it got wet and they immediately realized it and took the battery off right away. I am guessing that isn’t what happened. Don’t Ipods have some sort of internal battery?

I’d say be honest, just on principle.

If you send them a sad-faced iPod, they’ll send you a refurbished one, fix yours, and either sell it or send it to another customer to replace their sad-faced iPod. [Elton John]It the ciiiiiiiircle, the circle of liiiiiiiiiife.[/Elton John] By submersing your sad-faced iPod in a sticky-making liquid, you may have rendered it un-refurbishable. It doesn’t really matter what condition it was in when you threw it in your bag; you didn’t take care of it, and you might have ruined it for good.

However, they are pretty lenient with most issues. Apple replaced the logic board on my iBook (which admittedly was under recall, but not because of the display connector, which was the problem with mine) and a harddrive (which I was pretty sure was out of Apple warranty, but perhaps not the Sony warranty—they didn’t say) and gave me an OS upgrade with each repair, all without charging me a red cent.

They may decide that it’s worth it to keep you as a customer to overlook the beerification. Or you might be screwed. Dunno whether being upfront with them will skew the odds one way or another on that, but you’d have a clean conscience.

Here’s another vote for being honest. Then, if they tell you that they won’t replace it b/c of their water damage clause, just start yelling at them that it was beer and it isn’t your fault that they sell ipods who drink when they’re depressed. Push the issue If nothing else, you could come out of it with a good story for us.

And the title of that thread would be “I´ve just spent six months restrained on a mental institution” or something similar.

Isn’t that supposed to be Pabbbst?
