Should I become a nude model?

Another model checking in. I started modeling at 16, but didn’t do my first skin work until this year. Having been in front of a camera for over a decade, I was already plenty used to being viewed as a prop and not as a person. And really, that’s all you are, a prop. If you can get into that mindset, it’s no issue at all.

$7/hour does seem awfully low, though. I’ve never worked for a Uni, so I don’t really know what the going rate is for that.

Well if you do it, you’ll have to change the M in your username to a B.

I tried, it’s hard coming up with something since you already ruled out the “send me a picture” routine.

I wouldn’t bare my ass for $7/an hour. Nor would I want to lay for three hours where other people bared their asses & fronts

One time I went to a life class & the model was a woman I knew & when she saw me she told the teacher that I can’t come in & if I did, she wouldn’t pose anymore, so I didn’t get to take that class.

I thought that I’d better get the details on wages and hours before I made my decision, and it turns out that my schedule would not allow me to model for any art classes this semester.

I may consider it in the future, but probably not at my own school. I’d make better money modelling at the local art college, and the students there probably would not have the attitude problem that I worry about here.

I’ve got a friend who is working towards being a full time artist type… his subject matter is painted bodies.

There’s a bit on his webpage about the difficulty in finding models that are comfy doing it, and his rules for folks that may or may not be at a painting party.

He’s been doing it for about 2.5 years now, and he’s getting pretty good.

It’s fascinating when were at a club… it looks like he’s ogling chicks, but when I’ve called him on it, he starts saying things like… “I think she’d make a great cat… look at her hair and skin… man, I wish I had my brushes…”

It’s kinda cool.

Well, I once had an art class sketch me while I was sitting by the pond just outside my dorm, doing calculus homework. Took 'em so long, I got two assignments ahead before they finished. I remember one girl calling the teacher over, asking how to render bare feet in charcoal.

It was kinda interesting. They did ask me to pose nude, but I didn’t think I’d feel comfortable doing it. However, protests that my body is FAR from perfect went unheeded. They tell me (as somebody already posted) that perfect bodies are boring to draw.

Good tips posted so far! I don’t think anybody will look at you strangely if they run into you later. More likely, you will be admired for your contribution to Art, or at least for your ability to be comfortable in your own skin.
