For the sake of this discussion, please consider that your physical beauty is irrelevant to the artist’s purpose. Your body type happens to fit the theme for his or her work, which will be part of an exhibition on display at an art gallery. The poses will not be sexually suggestive.
This is a public poll with multiple responses allowed and no set ending date. Anyone who has posed for such works should feel free to tell their stories.
Yes for drawings and paintings. Fat bodies are very interesting for artists to work with, because we have curves and folds and the such that you don’t get in a slim body. I’ve done art classes myself (as a student rather than model), so perhaps that’s why I’d be more willing.
I have a friend who does portrait photography and artistic nudes, and solicited my time while building up his portfolio. They were quite good photos, too.
I might be a bit wary if it was someone I didn’t know who wasn’t already an established photog/artist/whathaveyou (what are you planning to do with my pictures, buddy?), but if I was confident all motives were artistic, I’d have no problems doing it again.
No problem, as long as it was actual art. I mean, I don’t know if I’d want to see it afterwards (do my boobs really look like that?!?!, you know) but I’d have no problem doing it.
Yes, except I wouldn’t want my girly bits showing. I actually have, sort of. In my last photography class, one of the assignments was nudes. I took pictures of myself using mirrors.
Only if the photographer promises he can make me a star.
Actually, no, but not out of any sense of embarrassment or anything. It just seems too ripe for potential problems on down the road, too perfect to come back and really bite you in the ass later on in life.
For public display, I wouldn’t mind drawings or paintings, even extremely realistic ones. But photography just seems a bit too personal. As I see it, the others would be an interpretation of me. The photograph would actually be me.
While typing the first paragraph, I had an additional thought. I might not mind an artistically manipulated photograph, where photography is the basis for the artwork, but not the work itself. Something to buffer the sense of immediacy between me and the viewer.
Yes, I have. It wasn’t for like a commissioned pic or anything like that. I knew some people who ran informal sketch group when I was in college and I’d go pose for them once in a while. It was pretty fun–nothing really “happened” with the pictures that I know of, and I’m not sure I was all that recognizable, but it was pretty cool. Kind of strenuous at times (holding the ten to twenty minute poses, and all), but I liked it.
Funny you mention this.
The school where I teach is going to be offering a live nude modeling class - part of the course work - and the head of the department just found out he has to find a room where they can close all windows. Not because it would “shock” any of the college students, but the local laws demand that the room be sealed off from any public viewing in case anyone under 18 should happen to walk down the hallway and see in the room.
This is a bit difficult, as most of our classrooms are labs with open windows to the hallway. He now has to see how much it will cost to put in new shades or window coverings of some sort.
Given that I have actually shared a picture of my naked self over the internet, I of course chose that I would do either and everyone can see my face and know it’s me. I love that picture - I was seven months pregnant or so and in love with my body and what it could do when I took it.
I guess I can never run for school board now. Darn.
