Come on, guys, I’m not a moron. I was not going to try and work from home and watch a kid at the same time. But working from home means no commute, and this job has extremely flexible hours. The way my schedule works with my husbands, I’d only need childcare for about 6 hours a day, 3 days a week. I’d be comfortable hiring a nanny if I knew I’d be home, and I’d be able to nurse longer since I’d be, well, right there in the next room. My current job it’s also entirely up to me the amount of time I work (it’s basically like freelancing), so I could work 20 hours a week if I wanted to, permanently, and not have the nanny. And I wouldn’t have to try and button my leaking boobs into a professional wardrobe.
(If you’re curious, it’s the flipside to that stuff I hate. It’s isolating, lonely, and my income is unpredictable. Sometimes there’s no work and I’ll twiddle my thumbs for a whole week. I miss having a salary and coworkers)
I said “baby-friendly” and that’s all I meant. An office job would mean 9-10 hours out of the house for both of us, a day care center, and a breast pump.
Sorry, not directed at you specifically - but at the general belief that you can do both. Working from home with a baby who is in daycare (or get a nanny) can be awesome - you get rid of the commute, baby is close by.
Best of luck on getting your life back, and then conceiving so you can lose it again.
I think having kids might be more stressfull than a bad work situation. I’m not trying to be a jerk, but what if the problem turns out to be your coping skills? I hope everything works out for you and I would’t worry too much about the jerks at the office. The law says that you have the right to take the time and a doctor says that you need it. Sounds like a no brainer to me, but don’t expect it to fix the problems that you’re having at work.
Yeah. Oh well, maybe if I stick around long enough, she’ll have an idea of what I can do with this loaf of bread. I’m getting so sick of just tearing chunks off.
Yeah, one that was given multiple times, and then argued about by multiple people. If you’d have read the thread, you’d see the entire thread was focused on this exact point.
