I just adopted a little dog from the animal shelter yesterday and she had to stay the night to get fixed. I got her home today and wow… she reeks.
Now, the instructions from the animal shelter say that it’s ok to bathe her after 7 days, but she smells terrible and I’m looking for a way to fix that SOON.
So here’s the question: Is it ok to clean Killer if I’m careful to avoid the stitches (she’s still all doped up from surgery, so that shouldn’t be a problem). And if I can’t wash her completely in the tub, how else could I safely go about reducing the stink until wash day?
IANAVet, but I would guess that you should just give her a rubdown with a wet towel, avoiding the stitches. It seems like anything else could really mess up cute lil Killer.
They sell these thingies that look like baby wipes, only they are for dogs who can’t be bathed for whatever reason. Call your local pet store or vet or go online- KV Vets has a good site, so does New England Serum.
Alternately, you can try dusting her lightly with baby powder, and then brushing her out. This should serve to pick up a lot of the dirt/grime/oil and still not affect her stitches.
