Should one eat candies before a home-cooked meal? Will the candies spoil one’s appetite for supper?

Moved to IMHO from Great Debates.

Never spoiled mine before. I wouldn’t let kids eat any though. (Well, maybe one little piece.)

One should do whatever the hell one wants, as ones parents are no longer able to dictate ones course of action ;).

Eating enough of anything before any meal can spoil your appetite. If said meal is going to be a big production of some sort it is probably a foolish thing to do. But, eh - it ain’t a big deal. Just leaves more prime rib for me, which I’ll happily take over any kind of candy.

Should one? As in, is one obligated to do so every time? Of course not.

Could one? Of course. But not every time, unless dinner is candy. On a related note, I *love *being an adult. =)

Only when its OK to smack one in the gob with a mashed-potato laden wooden spoon.

Yes and right up to the moment that your soup is served, when in which case, and especially if you are chewing candy gum, I believe the correct protocol is to remove it from your mouth and stick it firmly to the underside of the table for afterwards.

Only if it’s your birthday.

sorry, I thought it said "candles.

I would be concerned about candy on an empty stomach spiking my blood sugar levels.

I’m not diabetic. But, from what I’ve read blood sugar levels are a concern regardless.

I save any sweets for after I’ve eaten a moderate meal.

If you’re someone’s dinner guest, and they went to a lot of trouble to make the meal for you, it might be considered a little rude or socially clueless. If it’s a meal you made for yourself, knock yourself out.

I’ve been eating candy for years and my appetite is just fine.

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who read “candles.”

What if both are served within forty-five minutes of a swim?!

Just don’t bring your bag of M&Ms to the table if it’s not you doing the cooking. Might be a bit of an implied insult there, EVEN THOUGH few foods are as tasty as M&Ms.

Also, no wrassling at the table. That’s just rude! Also, you tend to spill things.

Appetite is affected by blood sugar levels. Depending on the candy, this could increase the levels in about 20 minutes. The higher the blood sugar, the less hungry you will feel.

So…I should eat candy to lose weight. I’m on it!
*just kidding..I don’t eat candy..stupid blood sugar pre diabetes mumble grumble using all my available carbs on beer grumble sigh..
