I’ve seen my share of purportedly scary Youtube vids- alleged ghosts caught on video; the “stare-at-it-until-something-jumps-out-at-you” variety; etc. But only one video (so far) has truly given me the boo-hoo heebie-jeebies:
It’s an otherwise mundane video of a passenger jet taking off, and nothing untoward seems to happen. However, at :29 the pilot seems to gun the throttle before the turn is fully executed*. That made my stomach do flips. Then, the plane seems to be in one hell of a hurry for a small commuter craft, which also got me a little queasy.
Give me some more.
*We’re discussing this in GQ, and the consensus seems to be that this is a perfectly normal, mundane maneuver that happens all the time. But for some reason it just doesn’t sit with me.
The benchmark, nadir, pinnacle, envelopment and internal derangement of absolute top horror must surely be this clip, which takes an everyday situation and violently subverts it. The most terrifying moment - not just in the clip, or even in human history, but in time and space - occurs at 1:02 and weighs more than Saturn. Also, anything by this man:
Keeping with the theme of Ashley Pomeroy’s madness-inducing clip and “The Sun Dog” as mentioned by Alka Seltzer, one clip that typically shows up in these types of threads is The Cat with Hands.
Oh no, is this the one where a woman is in bed next to her sleeping husband, the phone rings, and she sees that the caller ID shows her husband is calling the house, and next to her in bed is :eek::eek:?
I am NOT watching that! I heard it described on HP Podcraft, and just that has freaked me out more than once in the middle of the night. The host said he sent the video to his sister in law, and she still hasn’t forgiven him!
I dont’ think there are many/any truly scary videos since you have to be in the moment to experience the fear. Since it is on video, it takes away the risk of anything bad happening.
I’ve seen some deeply disturbing videos, but I don’t think I’ve seen any scary ones.
