I was doodling durng another boring Econ class a few years ago and came up with this symbol, which I tell people is an Egyptian war emblem.

A circular Celtic knot, almost 2" in diameter, on the back of my neck, right below the hairline. Visible only when I wear my hair up, though I suspect you can see the edges when it’s braided. Symblolizes my ancestry and my family, and I form of artwork I love. I got it when I was 19, pissed my father right off. This was not my goal, only an added bonus. It cost extra because it’s on public skin. (Your hands, neck, and face are considered “public skin.” I think some states ban tattooing on these areas.)
Woo hoo! On the Doper tattoo pages, obfusciatrist had one done by Pat Fish in Santa Barbara! I have chosen her to do my Celtic tattoo, if I ever get around to it. She is the best.
Check out her work here-
I have a heart-shaped vine that’s yellow with green leaves and some brown shading around my navel. I plan on having a matching one on my lower back, but stretched out to about 2-3 inches rather than heart-shaped.
STG
I have a tattoo about the size of a poppy seed on my right palm. I accidentally self-administered it once when I mishandled a very sharp pencil, and the point pierced my flesh. Several years later, that tiny smudge of graphite is still visible there.
I’ve got two:
Number one is a semi-cartoonish looking rat with pixie wings (ignore the orange around her back foot. it’s marker.) on my shoulder.
Number two is a somewhat (extremely) effed up looking vine/star combo on my wrist that I wont even justify by posting a picture of here.
I’m itching for a new tattoo, but there isn’t anything I want very badly, and I’m not into the whole “tattoo for the sake of a tattoo” thing. Both of mine mean a great deal to me.
I don’t have any pics… yet. I have a camera, I have film, I just haven’t gotten anyone to take a pic of my tat with them so I can post it up.
What I have is a dragon/wyvern tribal tattoo a few inches big on my left shoulderblade. It’s got it’s wings spread and it’s really nice. People keep asking me if the shirt I have with dragons on it was the inspiration for my tat. I always tell them no, I bought the shirt after I got the tat. One of those polyester ones that guys like to wear. They’re comfy for over my spaghetti tanks.
I have an anchor with a banner that says U.S.N on my left forearm. I got it the night before my 19th birthday. It has blurred quite a bit in the 25 years I have had it.
Oh, my god. That is so cute…
I have the original Superman shield on my left shoulder. Then I find out Jon Bon Jovi has one the same. Bugger!
Still I always wanted one and he is the greatest superhero after all but that’s a topic for another thread I’m sure.
I’ve had it for five years now and it still looks good!
Okay, I don’t have any yet, but I have a plan, baby!
Check it out:
I’d like a raised, infant-sized fist & part of a forearm placed on my right lower back. It’ll be positioned directly above the scar from my first surgery, where the doctors closed the open wound I had as a result of my Spina Bifida. I’d also like the design to incorporate a hospital bracelet, if that can be worked out decently. Symbolic of the whole “I will survive” thing.
That sounds awesome!
My MIL recently had to undergo a mastectomy, and I’ve been trying to talk her into getting a beautiful chestpiece done when she’s recovered. She likes the idea, but has never had a tattoo before. I think she’d love it.
Tattoos suck! “oooh look how cool I am I got some ink embedded in my skin! I’m a rebel even though every one else has one!” same thing for peircings. and yes this is in my not so humble opinion.
So on my 21st birthday, I planned to go to the tattoo parlor and get an eagle on my upper right arm. Only thing to decide is which eagle.
A female friend of mine hears my plan and asks if she can come along, as she wants to get a tattoo as well.
Off we go to the only good tattoo artist in Berlin at that time.
I wander through the shop, flipping through the books and begin to narrow my search for the perfect eagle. In the background I hear a commotion starting to brew.
Female friend is arguing with tattoo artist. She wants a small Japanese print on her thigh, but the artist is telling her there is too much yellow in one part of the drawing and it will look like shit in a few years.
My female friend says she is the customer and that is what she wants.
The tattoo artist gets pissed off and says, “I am the artist here. I am not doing a tattoo that I know is going to look like crap.”
The voices got louder, words were exchanged and he physically threw her out of the shop - then he looked at me and said, “and you get your ass out of here too!”
My birthday tattoo never happened.
And although I thought about going elsewhere, it just never seemed to be the right time or place again. >>sob<<
Thanks for the input gris gris. Isn’t there a “Why I hate tattoos” thread around here somewhere?
I have a parrot on my left shoulder. It’s about 15 years old and could stand to be re-inked. Last May I got the (don’t laugh) Chinese character for “teacher” on my right ankle. Yes, I am a teacher. My daughter had just turned 18 and had been planning her tattoo for over a year so I took her to the studio and we had them done together. My kid’s tattoo? Tramp will appreciate it–a firedancer. (I am a fan as well–note user name)
hey guys try not to break an ankle while you jump on the bandwagon. Hey do any of you guys still have your members only jackets or legwarmers?
And my not so humble opinion is that you’re a jerk who likes to piss on people’s Cheerios. Start a pit thread lambasting people with tattoos and piercings if you feel that strongly about it, but don’t enter a thread started as a way for people to share their commonality and spread feces on the wall.
My own tattoo is on my chest. It’s a Celtic Knot, four intertwined hearts pointing to the center, forming a cross in the center with their negative space. It’s over my heart, and it symbolizes balance in relationships.
That’s it! Now we’ll never teach you the secret handshake.
Tsk tsk.
I have
- an orange carp on my right shoulder blade
- the Celtic knot from King Crimson’s Discipline album in the middle of my back
- a tribal band on my left upper arm
- a rose on my right ankle
- a shamrock on my left chest
- a bird on my right chest
- the words “gris gris” in a red circle with a diagonal line going through it.
Sorry I like talkin smack on the net it makes me feel good about my pitiful little life for a couple of minutes.
