I like to have a “project” to work on during my free time. I don’t really like to just sit around and watch TV and I almost always have something that I’d rather be working on. Usually it’s something mindless, like making a really long Starburst-wrapper chain. I’ve also made a couple birdhouses, and during duck season I’ll often do a little taxidermy on the side.
I just got Photoshop so my recent projects have been making pictures. I just completed my first picture on Photoshop. I’m really proud of this one because it’s the first thing I’ve actually drawn and colored completely by hand.
First, I drew a sketch of what I wanted to make. Then I made an ink outline and scanned it. I’ve spent the last two weeks or so coloring it. I didn’t spend hours at a time working on it, I just worked on it when I had a bit of free time. I’d say the whole thing took about 4-5 hours from start to finish.
Here is the finished picture. Comments and suggestions are welcome, I’m still learning!
I want to see what everyone else is working on. If you sew, quilt, do woodworking, fix up old cars or ANYTHING, I want to see some Doper creativity!
I’m producing a 6-hour documentary on the composer and pianist Edward Kilenyi. You’ll be able to hear it streaming on the net in May, final dates TBA. If anyone is interested, you can e-mail me for details on the URL and schedule.
I’m (no pictures though) taking up the carpet and laying a wood laminate. And as the house is a mess in the places I’m working and there’s a period of time when there’s no floor or baseboards to mess up, I thought I’d go ahead and paint also.
In June, after getting home from a 30 bike run with some friends, it will be time to tackle the garage. All the shelves and whatnot are coming out. It gets painted and cabinets etc go up.
Probably in September or so it will be time to paint the outside of the house.
I’m also working on some Neverwinter Nights maps, but I have no screenshots yet. If you have the game, I can send you to my server to see the whole thing in it’s glory. Email me if you want to see it.
Well, I am working on music stuff. Right now I have a new piece that is going to be the intro soudtrack to a instructional video a friend is making. Actually I wasn’t sure what to do with this but my friend, an ex-Pro goal keeper (soccer) wants to use it for his instructional video. Sounds good to me so I am going to just solo on top of it. (WMAs follow)
I also have a new acoustic piece that is part of a 4 or 5 song concept CD I am putting together. Actually I am not sure how many songs will be on it. I need to finish the story arc then write all the lyrics. It is a pretty piece.
Lullaby Note, the solo bits are just me screwing around, I thought I took them out actually, but there will be a similar guitar part.
The other songs I have so far for the conecpt CD are:
All these are works in progress. I need to get the lyrics finished then rerecord the pieces to the right length and have the vocals done. Note, the playing isn’t perfect, these are just demos.
I’m crocheting a tablecloth, one-piece rather than motif. It’s currently about 32"x 40". When it’s complete, it will be around 48" x 72" Picture one Picture two (centre detail)
When I ever figure out how to get the DVD footage on my computer, I’m planning a couple more anime music videos (I’ve made 3 so far, one last fall, and two a couple years ago). One will be the new Appleseed movie to Breathe by Nickleback, and the other will be Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex (first season and probably bits of the second) to Have a Nice Day by Bon Jovi.
Well, you said ANYTHING. This is MY recreation. I’m a programmer by trade/accident, and basically a jack of all trades and a master of none.
I’m STILL working on the addition to my house. But I’ve done most of it with great support from my brother and Wife. Sorry, no pics.
Two stories, 6 windows, two outside doors (gonna need to build a second story deck I suppose . Watch that first step). In-floor heat. 1000 sq feet.
I designed it, planned it, and permitted it.
My Wife and I [sub]very carefully[/sub] dug out the incoming main house power supply by hand. We did it while it was hot (electrical wise that is, it never gets ‘hot’ where we live). But it had to move.
Had the elec meter moved (that’s why we dug out the power line).
Rented a track hoe and excavated it.
Excavated and layed in another 4" drain line to our septic tank. About 60 feet
Excavated and layed in a new propane line. About 100 feet.
(let me say right here and now. Thank God for mini-track hoes.)
Layed in the gravel for the base under the concrete and compacted it
Installed the floor rebar and mesh, and installed infloor heat,
I Hired out the concrete work. (Needed a concrete pump and stuff)
My brother and I framed it and set the trusses. And sheathed it,
Bro and I set the windows and doors, three of the windows are 4x6.
My Wife and I roofed it.
Bro and I sided it.
I also hired out the wiring, the electric meter and breaker box had to be moved.
I plumbed it. Including moving the hotwater heater and pressure tank from the existing house into the addition. Had to tear down the ceiling in the kitchen, downstairs bath and existing mechanical room to do that.
Installed the infloor heat water heater (no need for a boiler) pump, valves and thermostats. - Never done that before. It’s a bit confusing. But I had experiance with low voltage remote valves (sprinkler systems) so I puzzled it out.
Plumbed it for washer/dryer and utility sink (one of the main reasons we are doing this is to get the washer/dryer out of the kitchen area).
Insulated the bottom half.
Now, I’m just sitting on it. It’s dried in and heated. Need to save up some $. To get it finished. Drywall is next.
The project started as a re-finance that my Wife and I where going to use to re-place all the windows and carpet in the house, plus a few other things.
It’s not a project that I’ve worked on really recently, but something I finished up a couple of months ago, so I’ll bring it up anyway. I did two remixes for a band I’m acquaintances with online that you can hear at their myspace page. If you look on the right side of their page near the bottom is a streaming mp3 player with their upcoming ep in full. My remixes are named, appropriately the “I2X remix” and the “I2X dance mix”.
If we want to talk about more current projects, I might be starting a new mix for them soon.
