Showcase your favorite starving sculptor

John McAbery is a family friend who lives back home in my hometown. I used to pal around with his two children when we were kids.

This summer I saw one of his pieces that he’d donated as a raffle prize. Up until that point I didn’t even know he sculpted. When we were kids he had owned and operated the local bar and grill, and my exposure to his creative talent was limited to a mean BLT and fries.

I just love love love his stuff. I’m thrilled to see that his work is on display in galleries in three western states, and I’m thrilled that he has a strong web-presence that makes it easy to share his work with others.

He salvages his materials from the copious amounts of driftwood and windfall debris in his immediate area.

One of my favorite aspects of his work are the carving process photographs that come with each of his pieces.

Yay John!

Maybe I should’ve put this in MPSIMS…
