Shows I wish had lasted longer

Ah, my people! (Lots of you, anyway.) The shows I would have named have already been lamented, so I will simply join the dirge for:

Brimstone (I have gone so far as to outline in my mind a final-season finale, just to get some closure.)
Firefly, of course.
The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr.
The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne
The Chronicle
Gargoyles

For my fellow Gargoyles fans: There is a comic book series out now under the creative control of the original writer. It picks up at the end of the second season, and carries on from there–it’s up to Issue 7 now. The pace is a bit slow, especially with issues only coming out every other month, but I’ve been enjoying it. Hopefully, it will see enough support to explore all the threads, new and old, that it has picked up…

King Arthur is back, some of the gargoyles are working with Macbeth, and Maggie the Cat is pregnant.

Police Squad; The best show ever.

Someone else watched these?
Mrs. Plant put you up to this, didn’t she?
My chest is so tight…the pai

I think all mine have been mentioned, but what the hell.

Brimstone - Interesting premise, and I loved the guy who played the Devil.

Enterprise - I liked this, although I know some of the Star Trek fans around here didn’t. I quite liked the cast, I thought Bakula was good as the captain, and the rest of the cast did a good job.

Journeyman – I know, I know, Time Tunnel meets Quantum Leap, but I liked it.

Raines - Jeff Goldblum as a slightly off his nut detective. Doesn’t just talk to dead people, he talks to imaginary dead people.

John Doe - Ended way too soon and on a huge cliffhanger.

Dresden Files – Never read the books, but I may now.

The Lone Gunmen – I don’t know if they could have kept it going, and the extra characters they introduced (the big dumb guy and hot super hacker chick) were kind of lame, but I wish it had been given a little more chance.

Which is why I mentioned it back in post #19. I’m just glad I’m not the only one who remembers Frank’s Place. It’s a shame that Tim Reid either never got the chance or was unable to do anything that good again.

I miss many of the already listed, Deadwood, Dead Like Me, Carnivale, Futurama, etc., but am I the only one who really liked the show Lucky? John Corbett was a gambler in Vegas. He had a couple of hysterical friends/side kicks. It only lasted one season.

‘…I am the only one who saw it…Keywest 1993 with Jennifer Tilly’

Gonzo - I was IN that series! They shot in Key West while I lived there! I was and extra in the scene in the post office when Fisher Stevens picks up his lottery check. I was in front of him on line!
Of course, every in town was an extra in that show at some point.

Here’s a more obscure one. It starred Tom Arnold and as I remember was very funny but only lasted a short time. Some of the user comments at IMDb suggest Roseanne had the show killed when they divorced.

Jackie Thomas Show

Anyone mention Muppet’s Tonight? I still chuckle thinking about Bill the Bubble Guy.

How about the show Call to Glory? It’s a pretty much forgotten show now, but it was really well done.

I’d settle for the one season being released on DVD…

Besides Joan of Arcadia, Dark Angel, Wonderfalls and John Doe?

Invasion
Haunted
The Random Years
Pasadena (a show murdered by 9/11 coverage)
Veritas the Quest (a show murdered by early gulf war coverage)
Miracles (a show also murdered by early gulf war coverage)

Wanted
American Dreams
Vengence Unlimited

For those who picked DEAD LIKE ME , that one could come back. MGM has filmed a direct to DVD movie to be released this summer. It could serve as a pilot for a new series or a second movie. A teaser trailer is up over at YOUTUBE. Alas Mandy Patinkin is not in it, he was doing Criminal Minds at the time.

Most of my faves have been posted. Others, I’m like, WTF? So I’ll address only one: The Dresden Files. I’m sorry it’s gone, but I think they completely hosed it. The star looks nothing like I envision Harry from the books (Randy Hickey comes to mind), nor does Lt. Murphy. The show’s version of “Bob” is about the only thing that I could consider an improvement.

Sure, next thing you’ll be telling me they made a Highlander sequel.

I think Dilbert the cartoon series could have gone on longer. There were some fantastic moments in it (even though they admittedly were needed to counter-balance the lame moments). They got the voices virtually spot on I thought, although Dogbert wasn’t great.

Another obscure one is Best of the West, which ran for one season in I believe it was 1981.

That’s the one I came in here to mention. Loved that show. It didn’t last very long at all (I think it only managed fewer than 10 episodes), but it was pretty good. Kind of like live-action Dilbert, except with a brilliant-but-out of touch Bill Gates-style boss instead of a pointy-haired one.

I’ll second Cupid and Joan of Arcadia, and add three more:

Pearl, starring Rhea Perlman and Malcolmn McDowell
Father Ted, a brilliant British comedy that sadly ended when its star passed away unexpectedly
Anything But Love, starring Richard Lewis and I forget who else–I just remember that the female boss, played by Ann Magnuson, was amazing.

I’ll second that one. Forgot about it completely, but I know it was laugh-out-loud funny for me and my friends. Shaloub’s character was a total bastard, and a genius at pushing people’s buttons.

I’ll also second Sports Night, even though I think it was starting to go down-hill towards the end.

On the other end of the spectrum, I didn’t think Nowhere Man ended fast enough. Hated that show. Loved the premise, but there were just TOO DAMN MANY continuity errors. My roomate at the time swore up and down that it was all seamless, and that he ‘knew’ what was coming next… I’m not sure which was more annoying- his insistances, or the show’s inability to decide what to do with itself from episode to episode.
