Shows that become addictions

We got hooked on Lost this way.

The first time we saw Sex and the City was in Siem Reap, Cambodia. One episode. When we returned to Bangkok, someone loaned us a couple of seasons. We’ve not seen the entire series yet. Same with Six Feet Under; there’s at least one, maybe two seasons we’ve not seen yet.

Deadwood we watched this way, too. saw all of it. I’d heard there was to be a Deadwood movie that tied up some of the loose ends, but I’ve not heard anything on that for quite a while now.

A friend just loaned us a set of the first six seasons of 24, which we’ve never seen before. We’re still on season 1, but it’s good.

Oh, same here. I watched it in one day. It’s like a really good, really long movie.

Other addictions, in order of addictiveness:

Alias
Felecity
The Office
Sex and the City
Strangers with Candy
Arrested Development
Curb Your Enthusiasm (addicting for me, but my husband has a hard time watching a lot of if)

Brotherhood.

Babylon 5, Battlestar Galactica, Band of Brothers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

hmmm…maybe I’m addicted to shows where the name starts with a “B”…

She is absolutely captivating, isn’t she? I caught it by chance and added it to my TiVo season pass.

Do old shows count? We recently bought the entire set of the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes shows, and have been watching a couple per night for awhile now. I’m captivated, not only by the star, but by either actor playing Watson, the sets, the costumes, and the location shots at the old English estates. I also love how they stick to the actual stories rather than rewriting them to snazz them up for modern audiences.

I don’t get addicted to television series (though the GF and I did watch WAY too much House over Christmas holiday). I get addicted to genres: cooking shows, home improvement shows, survival shows, poker on television. I’ll go through them and burn out pretty quickly, but when I’m riding the dragon, there’s no getting me off of it.

Damn right. I love all of those shows but I am addicted to Band of Brothers. I own the DVDs. If I am flipping and it is on I have to watch it. I read the book. I read Winter’s book. I read Guarnerre and Hefron’s book. I read Compton’s book. I’m sick.

Weeds though that’s really more chronic.

Farscape, The Shield, The Sopranos, Firefly, Band of Brothers…

I tend to watch whatever Kim & Liz are watching. Though I like Scrubs and House (and like mocking ER, the only show I actually make a point to watch every episode of is MadMen.

Alias
House

Ah yes, someone’s mentioned The Office. We watched both seasons of the British original courtesy of an Englishman we know. And the two-hour Christmas special. Highly recommended. We’ve not seen a single one of the new US series; heard it truly sucked at first but then developed a cult following.

And following on that, the same friend turned us on to both seasons of Extras, also starring Ricky Gervaise. Also excellent.

The thing about British series, at least the ones we’ve seen, is they don’t seem to go on forever. There’s only a handful of episodes in a season. That’s both good and bad, as you can watch a season quickly but are often left hungering for more.
